: sr20det...comin out.....
turbo b13 se-r 05-28-2002, 06:37 PM Yep I got smog comin up July 18th. I have nobody to rely to "smog" my car with the turbo, so I gotta take it out to pass smog for my smog certificate requires that I go to a test only station! very strict. SMOG SUX:mad: !.....but the det will be going back in right after I smog it. Thanx for reading me rant on.
sleeping 91ser 05-28-2002, 07:15 PM that blows, theres no other way of getting it done, they cant run another car for you like another car of the same year and color or something, get creative man thats a lot of work to do if its not necessary.

turbo b13 se-r 05-28-2002, 07:22 PM the dmv looksat the vin numbers to see if they match your car....that won't work. I have nobody that will work with me on this one.

Where is the VIN number on the engine? Is it stamped next to the engine code on the block?
AztekSE-R 05-28-2002, 07:53 PM id say its posted in about at least 5 places on the car window , under the hood, door, and countless others
sleeping 91ser 05-28-2002, 08:41 PM that sucks it helps to know someone who does the inspections I guess because i have had my car pass and my friends have due to creative inspections.

turbo b13 se-r 05-28-2002, 11:26 PM The only place I know where the vin number is actually present is on the dash....not to mention insuranse and registration papers.
But.........I might have a solution....A buddy of mine just bought a 92 classic, same as mine and I was thinkin of just swappin the dashes on the cars (or somehow pry the vin # out and swap) That way my vin # ends up on his car. His engine runs clean and is legal, but his car is black and not gray like mine....(paint job;) ) throw all my paper woek in his car and we're set. Same year, same engine....this could work. ughhhhh the things you gotta do to own a det!
andris 05-29-2002, 03:00 AM no, dash swapping doesn't work. the VIN is also printed on the driver's door sticker, and they check all VIN locations. I almost had a problem with mine because part of the number was scratched off from slamming the seatbelt in the door. Be careful.
I really think you should shop around more for a friendly smog place. ask your friends, their friends, etc...

Toolapcfan 05-29-2002, 04:25 PM That's a crock of crap. Bodyshops aren't required to remove and replace any stickers like that when they paint your car. So remove them all. Grind them off, it's not like cars don't get wrecked and have panels replaced. What if you had a new engine put in because yours crapped out? There's got to be an easier way.
kjopi -sleeper- 05-29-2002, 06:49 PM i had to get mine smoged a little while ago as well...good thing i knew somebody $$$;) $$$ only cost me 70 bucks ***...so not that bad....your kinda screwed if you have a test only ***....then you REALLY need to know somebody

Hey you got your swap at sleep-r! Thats were I got mine done...Brian is pretty good at swaps. Erin is a pretty cool guy as well.
I just thank GOD I don't live in a state with emissions laws. I can't imagine all the BS you people have to go thru with visual emissions inspections, muffler tickets, the whole mirror under the car thing to check your cat... you guys live in a friggin oppressive state!
SucKit 05-30-2002, 12:09 AM Cant you just disconnect the intercooler piping and reconnect the maf to the throttle body directly? Than swap the injectors and ecu back to a N/a ecu. Just leave the turbo spinning, cause as long as the lines are still there it just acts like a header. That should make your car N/A, so you can pass smog. Unless they say wtf is that doing there and fail you anyways.
KikoSanchez182 05-30-2002, 03:16 AM yay for tennessee! these rednecks here love smog!
bl200sx 05-30-2002, 12:07 PM Do this, have a exhaust made with 3-4 cats on it with real small pipe like 1 3/4. Ford put like 4 cats on the 5.0 mustang to help it pass smog.
Good luck :)
PS might want to try some race fuel to, like C16 it is much cleaner.
92SE-R 05-30-2002, 01:39 PM And the C16 will melt all 4 of your cats.
CowboyDren 05-30-2002, 02:45 PM Ford used four cats because their cat technology was current for Domestic manufacturers, which was about five years behind import and aftermarket manufacturers. Flip through a Five-Oh catalog sometime, and count the number of dual-cat converstion kits that not only improve horsepower but run cleaner.
scmser 06-05-2002, 06:39 PM Get a PO box out of state, change DMV residence. But that's a PITA. That's only a choice if surrounding states are SMOG free. Ask some local repair shops about SMOG stations that might cut you a "break". (i.e. leaving $100 bucks in your ash tray)
turbo b13 se-r 06-05-2002, 11:39 PM thanks for the replies but....it seems that it wont be coming out:D
It's all takin care of;)
socalser1 06-06-2002, 01:34 AM finally found a shop to "pass" u huh, keep me in mind if my resources dont come thou aight:D
