I went down to 120 grit sandpaper, trying to get rid of these black specs, but nothing. I went to 400 grit, and still there...how the hell do I get rid of them?

I have read Naji's page for the procedure, so dont point me there. I did this by hand, not with a spindle like he recommends...could that be the problem?

hey serban, i think you answered your own q there. i know i havent done it, but ive been like plannin on doin it for a while now. i think the problem is is that you dont have as much force/speed as some people's drills or whatever they use:D . thats my guess.

I tried the sandpaper route, and it worked fairly well, but after a trip to Sears, the buffing kit is the best way. Its only $9.99. It comes with 3 wheels and 4 compounds. Buffing against the sanding marks is the best way. It looked good before I buffed it, now its like a mirror. I bought another kit, that way I would have one wheel for each compound, and labeled each one.

Here is some advice from someone who JUST FINISHED!!!! I finally finished mine after 5 grueling days. The first two days I was using 150grit sandpaper by hand. Then I about gave up. The fourth dayI went to autozone and bought a wire brush thing...hooked onto my drill and was a 2'' circle. That took all the excess SHIT off in a matter of minutes that I couldn't do in 3 days!!! I got re-energized, finished the VC and now I think it looks chrome! All those little black spots are gone, and with the brush it really just sweeps it off. I was afraid it would scratch too deep, but nope. After I finished that, I wetsanded it with 800grit until it was a bright shine. Then I used mothers MAG and aluminum polish on it for a couple hours. This is definately a trying and demanding procedure, not for the weak at heart! :D
