: I have come to a conclusion....
Storm88000 05-29-2002, 02:04 AM ....JDM SR20DE's engines rule.
This guy made 157hp with these mods on his '92:
Japanese Spec SR20DE (Primera) engine
Hotshot Headers
Place Racing CAI
MSD Ignition
Greddy exhaust
Unorthodox Racing pullies
JWT S4 Cams
That is pretty crazy. Serban had high HP#'s as well on his JDM. My buddy Ray K before he went turbo put down 150hp in his 98 SE.. with all those mods above except the pullies and ignition, I think Naji put down around 150-152 with the same mods.
Now I wouldn't say it's worth pulling your US SR20DE out and replacing with a JDM if your engine is fine, but shit, those JDM #'s are IMPRESSIVE.
NissanGuy01 05-29-2002, 11:29 AM :D My JDM engine is on the WAY!!
Bowlcut 05-29-2002, 11:51 AM as it was said a while back they are worth their money. IIRC there was someone in socal that dynoed with a stock jdm engine and nothing fancy done to it beyond bumped timing and i think maybe a pop at 140 to the wheels. which is a very good hp to dollar increase over almost any bolt on you can get. sad huh
MaddMatt 05-29-2002, 11:59 AM Know someone who ran a 15.2 with a JDM. His only mod was a Hotshot header. Was his 1st time dragracing and 60ft times were not good (~2.5, IIRC).
Serban 05-29-2002, 12:09 PM My hp numbers were with he Pacesetter header, and warm air intake. I have gotten a cai, and HS headers since then...I will probably dyno this month coming up, so stay tuned.

Straight up. I got mine for $350. My dad just recieved his and he paid $250!
My header cost more than my engine!!!
BTW, Serban & Rob, I like those sigs better; lets see *** wheels!
Pretty White 05-29-2002, 05:33 PM My brother says the same thing too. He feels the 10:1 is a tougher motor for some reason.
Storm88000 05-29-2002, 06:12 PM Very true. Well if your engine goes, you know what to do for a good price.
NissanGuy01 05-29-2002, 10:50 PM i JUST got mine for 250 + shipping.....the sad part is shipping was more than the engine.....*engine awaiting install(hopfully i will get to it tommorow)*
AFSE-R 05-30-2002, 01:20 AM *Hook me up too!* I want one now. I'm getting a new exhaust and clutch; was gonna blow 400 on a light flywheel, but an engine sounds better.
nj1266 05-30-2002, 01:31 AM Storm,
There is not that much difference between a JDM engine and a USM engine. How do I know?
My low port original USM engine put down 147 hp with header, pulleys, cai, exhaust and S3 cams.
The high port JDM engine that is 10:1 put down 152 hp with the same setting but with S4 cams and JWT ECU. I was also running a very aggresive alignment that cost me about 3 hp. So the 8 hp gain between the USDM and JDM engines is most likely due to the S4 cams and the JWT ECU.
I am pretty sure that had I ran the S4 cams and the JWT ECU on my original USDM engine I would have had similar results to the JDM engine.
Storm88000 05-30-2002, 01:56 AM Well, I'm sure it can vary on a case to case basis. But you have to admit some of these guys getting close to 160hp on a JDM with just bolt-ons is pretty incredible.
92SE-R 05-30-2002, 04:24 AM Are they on Dynojet 248C dyno's? if not, you can't compare the numbers.

The problem I find with these numbers is that they were not done on the same dyno with the same operator. The numbers will surely vary due to that simple fact.
The dyno runs on my car were done on the same dyno with the same operator under similar weather conditions. That eliminated a lot of the other variables that might affect the dyno numbers. The only variables between the first run and the second run were the S4 cams, alignment, and JWT ECU. I believe that the jump in hp from 147 with the low port engine to 152 with the high port engine is attributed to the s4 cams, ECU, and alignment. I am pretty sure that my old engine would have produce 152 hp had it had the S4 cams and JWT ECU.
Toolapcfan 05-30-2002, 12:21 PM Not to be a prick, but why is that incredible? Those engines are already rated at least at 140hp, to get another 15 to 20 out of those mods should be expected, especially for those overpriced UR Underdrive pullys. $300 for a 5HP gain, that's about as bad as what you get from spending $500+ on an exhaust to get that kind of gain. Then again, it would appear that you're talking WHP and I'm talking BHP.

Considering the cost. Smoothdaddyfig had a JDM with ghetto mods and made 147hp. Serban bought his JDM for under $300.
Toolapcfan 05-30-2002, 02:41 PM Considering the cost? What's the total for a JDM with HS header, PR CAI, MSD Ign., Greddy exhaust, UR pullies and JWT S4's? At least $1800 quite conservatively? So $1800 for 17HP increase is impressive? (Probably more than 17 though considering that 157 is probably WHP so maybe a 32WHP increase just to be fair?) Christ, for $1800 a guy might as well do a DET swap or skipped all the B.S. and just done a 50 shot. I'm just trying to understand man.

Shit for that much I would have expected for my pullies to be made out of GOLD!!!!!!!! Where on earth did you see them for that much? I paid alot less!
