Last night when i got home my tranny started making a funney grinding sound and when i engage the clutch in first gear i get a grindy feeling(i can feel it on he clutch pedel and the shifter). When the car is at idle it sound like there are rocks in my tranny case! but then wheni push in the clutch the sound alsmot goes away completly. The clutch still grabs the gears, but there is a grindy sensation when i push in the clutch in first.. I can tell if its cominog frmo the bell housing or the actual gears parts. my guess is its coming from the bell housing because when i push in the clutch it goes away a little. im looking on car-parts.com to see if i can get a tranny for cheap! i need one soon! unless this is a little simple problem.
P.S The clutch still grabs so i dont think its the clutch.

could this be a bad throw out bearing...its less the a year old! and i havent really dogged it to much!

I took my car out just now and i have concluded the following:

1) I dont belive it is the tranny, it still feels strong.

2) The clutch still grabs pretty good

3)Everytime i push in the clutch i feel a little grindy feeling so im guessing my throw out bearing is bad or severly messed up for some reason.

if anyone has any input please do!!

i had the same problem when i first did my motor swap, and it was a bad throw out bearring. fix it or your trans will not like it, trust me my throw out bearing gave out and i lost a tranny cause of it. a $26 fix could end up costing you alot more trouble than you can imagine.

Ya know what?..... In the past four months I have worked on four different nissan transmissions. Two of them had very similar symptoms to what you describe.

First question... When was the last time you checked the fluid?
Any leaks?
noise only when your foot is off the clutch pedal or only when it is on the pedal?
Make noise in all the gears or just one or only in nuetral?

Answer me these first and we'll go from there.

Go check your fluid though ASAP!!!!

Yes t could be as simple as a throw out bearing but it may be an input shaft bearing as well. Always check the simple stuff first. Check the fluid level soon.

go check the archives for clutch gritch. more times than not it is that problem. which ends up being the clutch cable if i remember correctly. after that maybe the throw out bearing. but research it.

Yea go with Jimmy and Rick. Pull the tranny and take a look. It could save ya a big PITA later on.

Well guys on my way to work yesterday IT finally broke down!!

This is what happend. it stated to rev really fast like there was no flywheel, so after i pulled over and shut her off i couldnt get her started. It sounded like the starter was just spinning and not turnbing the flywheel (making a really bad grinding noise) but this doesnt explain it all...
I did search the archives on both the forum and se-r.net for just about everything to now avail. and its hard to pull off a tranny when i live in a apt complex hopefully i will get a garage within the next few weeks though! THanks for all your imput guys i will let you know how it all goes when i figure out whats going on!!

Is your flywheel cool!

I only ask because a friends integra did the same shit.. it would do this grind when the clutch was placed in and you could feel it on your foot... just grinding and shaking..

His problem sounds close to yours.. We took the tranny out to only find a bent up flywheel. Which was the problem. Dont know what happened down there, but the teeth were bent up ... odd but thought I'd share that with you.

OK Dennis I believe you had a new clutch put in right?

Kinda sound like you Bendix was kicking in and out. It now seems like it isn't kicking out at all. Only problem with that is it doesn't explain the quick revs before it gave out.

Did you have the flywheel shaved before reinstalling it????

yea thats where im stuck at also darren...the quick revs complelty threw everything off of my though process....i cant even start it up becuase it just keeps spinning so i HAVE NO CLUE! what is going on! but this weekend i will be teariong her apart!

you may have ripped the splines out of the clutch plate. i had it happen to me before and it did do the sme thing, from what it sounds like.
