Is carbon fiber paintable? Has anyone else done this?

I'm pretty sure it is, most people dont do it just so they can show off their carbon fiber. Some people I asked that, would look at me all funny and ask "why pay hundreds of dollars for a carbon fiber hood and paint, no one will know you have it".

Seems like most people would get it just so they can show it off...probably not concerned that it takes off a lot of weight.

Shure you can paint it. Have a s-15 silvia conversion in the shop now with a carbon front on it. And it's white now:)

Well, I found the hood scoop that Mike Kojima has on his SE-R, but my car has waaaay less show-car appeal (actually it has anti-appeal). So i dont nedd, nor want the carbon fiber look *anywhere*. Except my pedals (*** they look black from a distance).

I purchase a similar if not identical scoop some time back, I have yet to put it on the car. It's a nice part but the finish isn't the best. I have a feeling that if you painted it it would look rather wavy. The carbon fiber with its pattern and darkness hide the irregularities. I got mine from www.carbontrix.com

its very paintable. actualy i wouldnt not paint it. one thing is it will last longer as the fibers do break down with UV light. Ok might take hundreds of years but it can happen :). George has talked about it for years. You keep from looking rice, you get the sleeper look back, and its light weight. And im wondering how smooth the finish is on them, cause i know the f50 is all carbon fibre and it is painte and you can still see the weave in the paint from the right angles. I wouldnt have a piece on my car if it wasnt painted.

Ever seen an F1 car? All carbon, with nice paint jobs :)

Carbon fiber can have pits in it, so if you paint it, they will stick out! How do I know? I made carbon fiber body panels and the nosecone for the University of Wisconsin Formula SAE race car.

If someone with lots of experience, and the right equipment (AKA, not my broke ass) makes the carbon fiber, it can have a mirror finish on it. I reccomend Fiber Images, they seem to do awesome work, good luck!
