: Possible crack in PS Header Primaries. Anyone else?
NismoPC 05-30-2002, 03:09 PM Anyone else have their PS header crack and if so, where? I need to find this leak and get it fixed. It is annoying the shit outta me.
OK! I have been searching for this damn noise and can not find it anywhere. I installed a used PS Header a few weeks ago. I replaced the manifold gasket, the cat gasket, and had the ball/joint section cut out and replaced with a flex pipe (no it is not leaking there). The secondary gasket was in great shape and was in no need of replacement.
It sounds like a damn cricket on steroids (LOUD) only on acceleration and I can barely hear it on deceleration. The sound was there before the flex-pipe was installed also, so that is not it. But I did not notice it as much when I had the Borla Turbo muffler. The exhasut was so loud, it muted the buzzing. Now I have the Magnaflow SS and the cricket sound is obviously loud as hell.
eric96ser 05-30-2002, 03:19 PM Take off the primary, and have it welded up. After 3 years of use, my HS header had a crack. A muffer shop should be able to fix you up.

Did it sound like a cricket on steroids? Just wondering even though I know every crack will sound different depending on the placement and size of the crack.
By the way, thanks for the info. I will probably go ahead and do that.
Outta curiousity, anyone think that 'Muffler Mend' or JB Weld would do the trick if I didn't feel like taking the damn thing off.

Wish I had a suggestion, but I don't. If that header had a crack when I sent it to you, then I owe you something for your troubles.
JB Weld is some spectacular stuff, IMHO. Give it a go.

No no no! No need! I'll figure it out. It could be the primary to secondary gasket. I still haven't ruled that out even though it is quite new.
Used is just that...
...used. I do not have any idea if it is cracked, but I am taken every path to try and figure it out.
I just need to really take some time to pin point the sound between the manifold and the flex-pipe. As stated, the flexpipe is'nt leaking, so it's gotta be before that.
Actually, come to think of it, why not just send me a HS gen 5 as a replacement and we'll call it even. Hehehe! :D
eric96ser 05-30-2002, 05:09 PM The crack in mine wasn't all the way through. I had it fixed before it was an issue. JB weld is some good stuff, but the header gets too hot for it. A friend tried it, and it worked... for 1 day. Just get it welded. It won't leak in that spot again if its done right.
200sx-97-SE-R 05-30-2002, 05:22 PM I recently blew out the secondary gasket on my ps header. I'd say my car sounded more like a lawn mower than a cricket. But any way it might be worth a look to see if yours is toast.
I just picked up a 300z gasket today, looks like it should fit after some cutting

Please, please, please keep me posted on the 300ZX gasket. That is a nice piece and if the gasket is shot I would love to put that one in there.
eric96ser 05-30-2002, 08:06 PM I have a 300ZX gasket in mine. The holes need to be enlarged and reshaped. I used a round file to make it fit.

You have a Pacesetter header and the gasket worked with some filing?
Great!

I'd guess he has the hotshot so they are most likely the same.
And yes I had to file off about a 1/4 inch at most, to get the gasket holes flush with the ps header holes.
