Guys is this possable? With all modifcations out there for the SR20 head could this be possable? Could the engine handle it?
What all would need to be done to the engine to get it to do this?

All that would be needed in order to rev till 8000k rpm would be a JWT ECU. I am able to rev till 8k rpm's on my DET but i NEVER do it. Reason being i have stock valve train. If i were to have the JWT springs and retainers and a set of cams then it would be another story. I believe dougnosser on this forum used to rev to 9k rpm's on his DE, i'm not sure what he'll be revving to on his DET. Hope this helps, peace

Valve Springs, Retainers, Guides and some good cams (optional). And oh, Don't forget the ECU! Happy revving! :D

I'm sure the block can handle it. Its the head that seems to be the trouble passed 7200. If its built, I see no reason why it wouldn't be a problem. I just don't recommend doing it on a daily basis as SE-Rious B14 said!

i thought the jwt ecu only raised the rev limit to 7800k?!?!

jamie told me a while back (ghettomax1) that jwt had a program for 8k but not many people know about or want it because its around 7.8-8 that valve floating starts to occur

Mine goes to 8. :D

JWT C2 cams/springs/retainers/ECU.

Its actually 7950 because the ECU can only control things that high. With a Jun ECU the sky is the limit.

Don't forget that the redline on the classics was 7750 rpm or so. Valve float starts somewhere upwards of 8k. With new springs, retainers, etc, you can rev to 9k. I thought I remember hearing of a guy in Florida revvin up to 10k.

I just want to make sure... is everyone guaging how high they are revving based on the tach or a dyno or aftermarket tach???

It makes a big difference as Eric showed me.

I shift all day at what my tach shows as 8500RPM.

But according to the dyno, this equates to actually around 77-7800.

This is about as misleading as crank and wheel hp.

the classic redlines at 7500. the jwt lets it rev to 8k (or 7950) real rpms, not stock tach rpms
what he says better below me

I thought that the limits of the stock ecu (JWT or stock programmed) was 8000 RPM. I read somewhere on the digest that the processor cannot run past that (something like 8-bit vs 16 bit...or something to that nature). You might find it in the archives of www.se-r.net

you guys(and gals) also have to keep in ming the the stock valvetrain setup uses hydrolic valve lash adjusters and if you rev your engine too high without replacing these, they will get "stuck" and ruined. one reason why honda b-SERIES CAN REV TO THE MOON IS BECAUSE THEY USE A MECHANICAL VALVE LASH ADJUSTER.

I've read Jun makes or made a kit to change from a hydraulic to mechanical valvetrain, for the purpose of revving 8k,and over . You need springs, retainers, ecu, and of course cams too.

yeah beacuse i dont have a ecu or a cams and i rev it to 8 grand according to the stock tach.

what, 7.8k not good enough for ya ;) Seriously, I think if you go with the JUN stuff, you'd need that "lash killer kit" (assuming that's the conversion kit to mech. lifters), new springs and retainers. Oh, and an ecu that will let you rev that high.

All the other stuff is pretty much unrelated; sure, you'll have a stronger motor but the rev limit is pretty much only due to valve float from what I know. So all you gotta do is replace the stuff so as to prevent valve float.

I think....

Hey Sean, my tach is a good 400-500 rpm off. Since it looks like you drive a classic with a 7.5k cut, 8k on the tach is reasonable.

wouldnt your power fall off anyways? i mean who maintains power that far into the tach:confused:

Yup, I gained about a .4 seconds in the 1/8 mile by shifting at 7800 tach rpms rather than 8400 tach rpms.

Ya, I'd say those parts would do it.:D
