It was compressed so he used a program called WinRAR to de-compress

His computer said:

You could just write it to a CD though if you wanted to. Mounting it as a virtual drive just means you don't have to put the CD in every time you want to use it.

Once you're able to read the CD, can't you just install it onto your hard drive??? I have it on my hard drive, but I did it so long ago, I don't remember what I did. Try to find one of those programs it listed, like alcohol 120, and learn how to use it. A virtual drive is basically a CD drive on your hard drive, without the physical CD drive. A simulated CD drive, if you will. A CD is an image. You can copy any CD image onto your hard drive, still in its image format. Only a CD drive can read a CD, or image. So once you have the CD drive "emulator" (the virtual drive), you can use it to read and work with an image you copied onto hard drive. A simulated CD drive reading a CD copy, all without any loading time since it's on your hard drive. Hope this helps a bit...
