I havent heard anyone doing this before but I was courious on if anyone had. I am at Unlucky's house (Travis) and compared my stock 2.0L rods to his SR20 Rods. Mine are a lot bigger than I expected. They actually dwarf the SR20 Rod. I am trying to gauge how much power they can hold for my up and coming built race motor. I believe that with a shot peene, some polishing, and maybe cryo they can hold up to 600hp. They have held to 577 bone stock so far. They are bigger than Mitsu 4g63 Eagle rods and the same size as the Mitsu Crower rods.
So who has broken them and at what HP level... Has anyone broken them??

I have broken fucked up 2 motors by braking rods so far. I can not say how much HP the car had but I can say the car was running 1/4 mile times NA of 14.2 at 97 MPH and with 140 shot of NOS the car ran 11.9 at 117 MPH. That did not last to long BAG on motor gone the next motor ran 11.7 with 160 shot but again dead after a few runs. I can say the HP was about 300 WHP but the torque was probably be about 400-420 at 4000-4500 RPMs.
Well after learning my lessons I now have JE pistons and Crower rods. I will now be starting at 140 shot of NOS and moving up from there. "The NOS HOE RIDES AGAIN".
LOL I was JUST wondering the same thing and was going to ask this question in this forum myself. :D
I know nitrous HITS the rods really hard so I believe Andreas on this.
Now how about turbo horsepower? I have yet to hear of anyone blowing up the stock bottom end on anything but nitrous. I still don't yet understand why people upgrade their 9.5:1 bottom ends even for 500+hp because, to my knowledge, no one has blown up a stock bottom end.
No wait, aren't the stock rings only good for 22psi? So I guess if you go above 22psi you would need better rings, I guess? I am pulling this info out of my ass, so please let me know if I am remembering something completely erroneous.

JGY has a GTi-R block with a nice sized hole in the side. I don't know exactly what failed, but I believe there was nitrous involved. Makes for a nice coffee table, good conversation starter.

When I do my Nitrous setup (not NAWWWSSSSSS) I am going to use the electromotive to controll it progressivly. It will come on at about 3000 and be at full shot by about 4000. This will help the turbo spool. I might have it taper off on the top end. I cant see using more than a 100 shot, 150 at the most :D I am going for 500hp on turbo and 550-600 on Turbo and Nitrous.
Andreas are you sure no detonation was involved. I know Nitrous hits the rods hard but to break them twice..... daayum.
Actually I was a little dissapointed on the Rods and pistons out of the SR20. I was expecting some stronger looking stuff. I know they hold the power..... But they were a lot smaller than I though. The ringlands were smaller than I expected also. Still about twice as big as a honda :D
The Aluminum block is nice.... I am stuck with good iron like the supras :D

I was impressed with the FE3 rods that he had. Those things were the size of the crower SR20 rods!! I wouldn't be afraid to throw 600hp at them... I can't believe these same rods are in a Kia Sportage!!!?! They look bulletproof..
