I dunno if any of you had a similar problem but here's my warning....
i adjusted the ball on the shifter until no threads were showing above the ball...this gives the shifter about a 2.5" throw similar to the Stillen one. At this height, in 5th gear, the rod knocks/rubs against the heat shield. instructions that come w/ the Pacesetter short shifter says you might have to cut a hole in the heat shield.
not a good idea...instead take a big hammer and dent out the spot that rubs...
DONT cut out the heat shield as it protects the shift assembaly...i cut it out like instructions told me to (a small hole too!) and some how a rock got lodged between the connecting rod. getting on the highway and unable to get out of 2nd gear is not fun.

i say just shitcan the heatshield, its just easier and doesnt pose any real problems that i can think of. Plus even with the cutout shield, during idle it still rubbed on it.. so to the trash it went.... wurx 4 me! no problems at all!

I bashed the hell out of my heat shield, now one of the holes doesnt line up. Next time I get under my car, I'm just going to pull the whole thing off.

And about that rock...man, what are the odds, next thing you know you're gonna win the lottery :)

But I know its no fun, I had the bolt come out of the shifter and it was stuck in 5th gear...no fun taking off from ligths in 5th gear.

thanks for the warning. was there anything else thet you had a problem with when you installed your ss. How do you like it now?

man, just 4 days ago the nut that held the bolt onto the ss came loose and fell off. I barely made it to my house and when i took everything apart the bolt was halfway off. Since i lost the lock nut, iwent to homedepot and bought a nylon(i think) lock nut and its been on there so far , about 4 days. I'll see how long it stays on there.

back then when i installed my SS, i consider throwing away the heatshield.

after consulting many others, they warn me about the heat from the cat. if you do throw away the heat shield, make sure not the park on dry tall grass. also, the heat might make the grease on the SS harden and you'll have a hard time shifting after a year or so.

these are something to consider before throwing away the heatshield.

hehe, once the nut came of my shifter to where it connects to the arm, and then as i was driving the bolt rattled out an my shifter just flopped everywhere. I had to jack up my car and fix it, which reminds me i have to go throw the ES bushing in now.

I threw my heatshield away. If the Pace Setter SS is adjusted till there is no threads left there is no possible way the heatshield will fit. I tried bending till it wouldn't line up with the bolts.
Been running it this way for a year with no problems.
I have no problems with heat .

the heat thing i mentioned is just a precaution. isn't that way the heatshields are there for? =)

IIRC, people use ordered the C-shifter, they come with washers. those washers are for you to put on the bolt so that when you tighten the heatshield back on, the washer will act as spacers and lower the heatshield somewhat.

see if that helps. i didn't use it. i beat the crap out of my heatshield before i find out this trick.

it's good to have 2 people working on the shifter. that way you can have someone shift around for you while you look for the part where the shifter hits the heatshield.

hhhmmm heres an idea, if you're worried about heat, wrap the cat.... may help with emissions too

here is what my dad and I did. we cut the hole to allow plenty of room for the shifter. the got a piece of sheet metal, bent the ends and pop rivited it in over the hole to make the shield sit in stock location, and allow the shifter to still have ample room. it worked like a charm , with little heat on the shifter. the "box we made took a little test fitting to keep it from rattling against the cat, but it work great. i hope it helps.
