: What do I need to keep up?
BLK92SER 06-01-2002, 07:46 AM My friend is buying an 86 BMW 325i with the following mods
Headers
Exhaust
KN Cone Filter
Upgraded Brakes
Blisten Shocks
Springs (forget name)
sway bars
Strut tower brace
Fiberglass Hood, and bumpers removed to save weight
Not that i am bitter or anything, but what would I need to do to my classic to be able to keep up with him, just as far as 0-60?
That will be a great bmw with no bumpers.
BLK92SER 06-01-2002, 08:11 AM no kidding, he better not hit anything. It is borderline rice so it isn't like I am enamored with it, just want to be faster
Andreas Miko 06-01-2002, 08:16 AM Well you will need to get headers $425, Cams $580, Mandrelbent Ex 21/4 $450, JWT Pop fitler $135, Some solid ES mounts to control power $90 and a ACT clutch to put the power to the ground $370. All prices are shipped to you.
If you got a little cash go Turbo, GTIR T28 setup. Can all be done with quality for about $3000 give or take. Turbo setup shippping $1,400 with Turbo comp $550, Clutch $370, used 370cc inj $250, intercooler setup used intercooler plus pipes $600. Wala you are running 12.8-13.4 depending on your driving skills.
Thanks Andreas Miko
BLK92SER 06-01-2002, 09:15 AM Do you need a reprogrammed ecu with JWT cams and what is the difference between the c3 and s3 cams?
MaddMatt 06-01-2002, 11:42 AM My good friend and BWM 325is auto-xer tells me unless you change the MAF, the other changes you do (intake, headers) will have not much effect on power on the Bimmers. IMO you need to run ~15.0 to smack him. Headers, CAI, decent exhaust and pullies should be plenty. No need to swap cams.
My buddies 325 with intake, MAF, 3" exhaust with no cat and a chip (Dinan? I dunno) runs 15.1. Not bad, but ~.5 sec slower than me.
MaddMatt 06-01-2002, 11:46 AM just as far as 0-60?
BTW, unless he does a chip, he'll hit the rev limiter in 2nd at ~54 mph, requiring a time comsuming shift to 3rd to reach 60mph. If he gets a chip, tell him to go ahead and replace all the rocker arms, because they'll break eventually with a 7000 rpm redline. And the head has to come off to replace the arms :)
spdracerUT 06-01-2002, 12:34 PM I dunno about 0-60, after a certain point it usually comes down to who has better traction off of the line and the BMW should beat you there. BUT, it is only a 325 and it is an 86 so like someone else said, a low 15 quarter should be able to take care of it.
The car doens't sound ricey to me, it sounds like it was a purpose built car for auto-x or road racing. All those mods are made to make the car faster; what's ricey about that? If it's only street driven with no bumpers though, that's pretty stupid in my opinion. Lots of people like to parallel park by feel around here!

BLK92SER 06-01-2002, 03:49 PM I refer to it as ricey due to the non-performance upgrades I didn't mention, such as the yellow sterring wheel, shift knob, seats, seatbelts, Silver tint in the back, sideskirts, spoiler inner headlights are covered and the outer ones are those "super blue" kind and maco paintjob. you would know what I meant if you saw it:)
howard_w13 06-01-2002, 04:06 PM Don't worry. The Bimmer will be in the shop most of the time. :D
ihateloops 06-02-2002, 03:53 AM hmmm......an 86 325i....those cars are pretty torquey and just a little heavier than the classics. id say go mod for mod with him, then bump it up one. that should probably do it.
