: JDM motor questions..
Tunez 06-01-2002, 03:06 PM OK I am at 124,000 miles on my NX and am considering doing either a JDM swap or some more bolt on's. Looking at prices, the JDM would cost about as much as say Headers, cams, and a CAI. I already have an exhaust so I am not worried about that.
So with that in mind, what is the better route to go. From what I see the engine is nice due to the fact of getting an engine with less miles. But, it seems as though the mods would offer more power. Would some of you gear head guys help me out here cause when it comes to anything other than bolting things on or in, I am LOST.:D
PS: If the motor is the choice, where is the best place to buy them as far as price and quality.
Thanks for your help.

Unless you have a rod knocking or some other ambiguous prblem with your current engine, I'd keep it and mod it.
When, and if, you blow that engine, then replace it.
If you want the engine anyway, K. Watanabe has them for $250+shipping w/6 month warranty.
I got one 3 years ago and my dad got one a month ago. They're both 10:1 engines.
You can find the ph# on the list archives: se-r-list.org
91SDClassicSE-R 06-01-2002, 06:17 PM well i just called k watanabe and they say they have the jdm sr20 for 350 i think.. im just wondering how do you know if its a 10:1 compression ratio not.. like how can you tell.. thankd
NissanGuy01 06-01-2002, 08:51 PM I just got my JDM sr20 the other day. (half way thru installation, woo hoo!). Anyways, they will sell them to u for 250, you gotta watch them, they will try to raise the price. I called 4 times and got 4 different prices on the engine and shipping...IN ONE DAY! My invoice that they sent me said they have a 12 month warranty, and a one month on head gasket. Can't wait to get done with the install....
Tunez 06-01-2002, 09:52 PM $250!?!?!?!? SWEET, hell with it I'll do that and some bolt on's.
Thank you for all your help guys, I do appreciate it.

The 10:1 engines will have a steel tubular header attached to it as opposed to a cast iron exhaust amnifild (not tubular).
Back when I got my engine 3 years ago, I didnt know there was a 10:1 engine, so I didnt specifically request it.
My dad couldnt care less 10:1 over 9.5:1. So he didnt request it. However, we both recieved 10:1..
Although both engines were very clean, I wouldnt trust the guys the to know the difference if you were specifically request a 10:1.
For that price, 10:1 is a nice bonus, but does it matter for $250???
Back when I bought my first engine back in 95, used, untested, unwarranteed engines were running about $1500! New ones from Nissan were $6000!
91SDClassicSE-R 06-02-2002, 12:41 AM damn reading about all the people with the jdm motor and how easy they puting out the power make me wanna get it so bad hehe hopefully ill be another sleeper sentra driving around town again soon

If I had a good running 9.5:1, Id set out to build a 230whp turbo set-up somewhat cheap!
NissanGuy01 06-02-2002, 03:08 AM llprad1, did you replace your us spec header onto ur jdm engine? *** i dont see a spot for the o2 sensor to go on the tubular header on my jdm sr20. Any special tips on doing the engine swap....
llaprad1 06-02-2002, 05:15 AM I bought a Hotshot header in the middle of the swap (took me 6 months part time--- had to do everything absolutely failsafe and correct)
I think only a few people have utilized a JDM header. Eric's got mine.
NissanGuy01 06-02-2002, 11:34 PM is the jdm header better than the us header? also how i would I go about adapting this header for my o2, or is there another place i can put my o2?
GameDay 07-12-2002, 02:05 AM Newbie here interested in finding out the best place/prices to buy an SR20DET motor from a Bluebird and Avenir(sp).
Are they getting scarce, and what are the ballpark figures?
When you price yours, what do they/should they come with...i.e. - longblock, tranny, intercooler, etc.
Any and all info would be appreciated!
Last, is swapping this into a 94 G20 more complicated? If so, what additional mods need to be done and how much?
Ok, I lied, one more...how much for the install, and who do you guys recommend? I've seen jyg, sr20development, and some have done their own? Would a competent local mechanic really have that much trouble?
Thanks and I love this board!
GameDay :)
94sentraSER 07-12-2002, 03:25 AM I also had the misfortune/blessing of blowing my engine, and of all times racing a mazda, needless to say i smoked him like a pack of newports but paid a high price for it, i had bought a JDM SR20DE thru soshin corp, you can probably find them on any search engine, and i probably paid a little bit more than what K. Watanabe was charging for the same engine, needless to say my baby has been feeling like it has more " nuts" than my old SR20 engine did, i now know why, the compression is different in JDM than in USDM, i had my mechanic bolt on all of my old hardware to the new block and wwoooooo hhooooooo does it fly, all i need are wings on the damn thing and my SE-R can fly into O'Hare lol so my advice to all is even if you dont get to see a piston shoot right thru the block, you should most definitely in the utmost get a JDM whenever possible, it will definitely be worth the $$$ and the time, thank you all and god bless my fellow SR20DE enthusiasts..........
scmser 07-12-2002, 08:04 PM Gameday, PM Andreas Miko. He's a regular on this forum, very trustworthy from what I've read.
I swapped a jdm sr20 into my classic, night and day difference. Much stronger.
