: Which resonator should I use?
shumax 06-01-2002, 10:55 PM Which resontator would you all suggest I use? I am having a shop put together some SS pipes from the cat back to the cheesy Toucan DTMm muffler the prior owner had on the car. They are charging me $175 for the pipes, labor and flanges. I still need to get a resonator picked out.
Suggestions? Size, etc?
I think I am going to go with 2.25 pipes. Would 2.5 be any better?
Thanks!

True, so true! Hehehe! :D
But, I'll chime in anyhow.
I used a Thrush 25" Magna 2 1/4" in/out Glasspack Muffler #24201. Seemed to do the trick quite well for only $14.99 from Jeg's www.jegs.com
You can order online, but they are local for me so I was able to just go pick it up.
Pep Boys has them for $19.99 as well.

Not to trash your post or anything but PERFERATED core is supposidly better...not as much back pressure...just a thought...and magnaflow and dynomax make many diffrent lengths of these...

shumax 06-02-2002, 08:42 PM I ordered a 2.25 ID Dynomax Cat and the 2.25, 24" long Dynomax Thrush Glasspack from JEGS for $80 to my door.
Now I need to find a shop to put it all together.
Thanks!

playatx99 06-02-2002, 09:01 PM i remember reading somewhere that while the preforated core(IE straight through) resonators are higher flow, they dont quiet the exhaust as well as a louvered core(glasspack) does. apparantly with a preforated core, the exhaust often still droans on the highway and what not

Ok, I'm lost. What are you talking about?
The Thrush (Magna) Glasspack #24201 that I purchased is exactly that. It is a 2.25" in/out with a 2" inner diameter perforated core made by Dynomax.
So there was no trashing taken! :D
NismoPC 06-02-2002, 11:27 PM Their site is down right now, but you can go check it out here if they ever get back up and running:

playatx99 06-03-2002, 01:16 PM ok, a louvered core resonator has little protrusions that stick out into the exhaust path(hard to describe, but if you look at one you will know what im talking about) whereas a preforated core resonator has a totally smooth wall that has little holes in it, so the exhaust flow is alot less turbulant/restrictive.......look at it as the diff between mandrel bent and crush bent tubing
playatx99 06-03-2002, 01:18 PM wait, here we go, this shows EXACTLY what im talking about.
perforated core:

louvered core:

Exactly. I guess I was confused to why SENTRESER stated Not to trash your post or anything but in regards to my Thrush perforated glasspack. I think he believed it to be louvered, not a good choice in resonators and not made by Dynomax.
I had to reread it a few time and that is what I got outta his post.
I am fully aware of the differences betweeen the two and you are correct a louvered glasspack will cause unwanted backpressure, especially if the louveres are installed with the open ends facing the front of the car. But they will also, in theory, quiet the exhasut down more than perforated.
Here is the link directly to the specifications of the Thrush:
http://www.dynomax.com/documents/thrushglass.pdf
and here are the general specs:
- Heavy gauge shell provides maximum durability
- Expandable bushings for custom applications
- Smooth-flowing perforated center tube minimizes turbulence
- CRF (Continuous Roving Fiberglass) for powerful tone and long life
Straight-through design for maximum flow and power
