hi

last night i picked up a set of OEM B14 wheels from a member in Corpus Christi. i was planning to ride on the OEM wheels and put race rubber on my aftermarket wheel. upon close inspection, one of my wheel's spoke cracked.

i noticed that crack 1 week ago when i was swapping rims off my other car. at first i thought it was just paint that's cracking. today i can see the crack on the back side of the wheel also and i can see movement of the spoke.

my wheel is a PowerRacing VS04. it has 6 spokes and the crack spoke cracked near the outside of the rim.

the weird thing is, i don't remember hitting anything hard enough to do that kind of damage. the wheel is perfectly round, i've taken the car up to 90-95 and no vibration at all. no paint is chipped near the crack on the rim.

anyone has this problem? i don't see how my spoke cracked (possibly under stress) without bending the wheel first.

thanks

Don't play that game. Stop using that wheel. If it comes apart, your toast and maybe some one else out there. I know I'm not your dad, but trust me on this one. It sounds like a stress crack due to a casting flaw and agressive driving (drive hard bloke) :). This does happen, not as ofen as 20 years ago though.

Toss those wheels. If they cracked under normal street use, what'll happen to them when you put the forces generated from R-compounds on there?

I've read Revolution has also had problems recently with cracked rims. BSI switched from Revolution to Borbet after a Revolution rim fell apart at Road Atlanta and then they found 4-5 more cracked ones on their other cars.
