: question about flex pipe...

Okay, here's the deal. I have the gen-4 HS headers and the flexpipe has this really annoying rattle to it when in low RPM. What would be the cons of me just cutting the it out and welding straight pipe in? I assume that it would be maybe a little louder? Would I take a performance hit? Any info would be appreciated. :D

I'd be worried about breaking something. The flexpipe is there to do just that -flex- when you engine shifts around. Putting a straight pipe in, I'd bet you would crack your header pretty quickly. Of course, that's just my opinion.

Are you sure the flex pipe is making the noise? I have never had a problem with noise from a flex pipe.

My friend had this problem with his headers right after he put them on. About two weeks later he looked at them again and he forgot to put a screw in...he thought it was his cat at first...check both..

Crono, where was the screw he forgot to put in? Thanks for the replies.

My hs does this. It's annoying and most hs headers do it.
The solution most people use is to have another flex pipe, or ball joint type flange welded in. I would shy away from a straight pipe, the exhaust system needs some room to move, that's why the hangers are rubber.

I'm not completely sure, but I believe it was right after the second pipe. He has an integra w/ DC sports headers btw, not HS w/ an se-r...but the problem is common and might apply to you as well. Did you check the cat?

I have the g4 and mine did this. I tightened all the bolts again and found that some had come lose after a test drive. After all where tighten noise stoped.

Now that you mention this, SE-R. net has an installation guide for the HS headers. They say to retorque them after one day, as they WILL indeed come loose. Check this...seems to be the problem. Stuff rattles when it is loose.
