: RWD 200SX with DET swap
Toolapcfan 06-03-2002, 04:48 PM Apparently a young man in my area with a 200SX (And a fat wallet) sent his car off to CA to have a DET swapped into it as well as have it converted over to RWD. Apparently a 240SX drivetrain was utilized to make this happen. Has anyone heard of this being done before? I wish I knew the guy so that I could get him to post some pics for us. Not much info but wanted to share anyways.
spdracerUT 06-04-2002, 01:18 AM huh... all I gotta say is it'll be very unique. I'd personally dump my money into a 240sx which is already RWD and has a superior suspension setup; but I guess there's something to be said about originality.
I guess you could fab up some new suspension hardpoints and make a badass rear suspension on a 200sx chassis. I guess I just question why when you could just use a 240. Oh well, to each their own!

Toolapcfan 06-04-2002, 09:33 AM That's very true spdracer, but by that same rationale we could say that one should start with a 240SX and not even bother to mod our cars. I'm sure since he didn't do the work himself that he spent enough that he would have been better of just working on a 240SX at least economically speaking. I think it's cool. I've contemplated the building of a RWD or AWD classic. Considering the engine had to be mounted parrallel, this shows that it can be done and to do an AWD really wouldnt be any bigger a hassle than the RWD, assuming that the AWD tranny would line up correctly in respect to the front spindles. Maybe when I get a classic I'll have to see if I can get an AWD tranny cheap, just to mess around with.
93BlackBird 06-04-2002, 09:58 AM So how exactly will he fit this motor in? It can't be put in the normal way. Instead, if its true anyway, easier task would be a full GTIR drivetrain
Toolapcfan 06-04-2002, 10:15 AM There's no will, it's already been done, but I haven't seen the car. And it is true, because they guy who told me about the car is no B.S'er. When and if I find out more info I'll post about it.
Da91NX 06-04-2002, 10:51 AM What year 200sx is it. Are you sure it isnt the RWD old school 200sx?
Toolapcfan 06-04-2002, 10:57 AM It's a B14 I know that much, but what year exactly I don't know.
ser_lover 06-04-2002, 12:09 PM Arent 240 heavy in the back so wouldnt that make the light weight 200sx in the rear fish tail all the time when kicked on hard. I could understand why he would do this cause the 200sx looks alot better than the 240 in my person opion but thats just me. :)
Shadow-=OL=- 06-04-2002, 12:43 PM we'll seeing how so many people on this earth expecially in the street racing era talk alot of crap when you see this guys car tell me if the motors long or transverse. also look underneath the car and tell me if in the back wheel you see a transfer case. trust me i don't care how long you know someone people lie. tell me if you see these things i would actually like to see a true 200sx rwd.
Shadow-=OL=- 06-04-2002, 12:47 PM btw putting a sr20det longitude in a 200sx wouldn't even fit the hoods not long enough for this to happen.
dgerryts 06-04-2002, 01:08 PM weren't the old SCCA gt4 and gt5 200sx SE-R's rear wheel drive conversions?????? (i really shouldn't say old, some of them are still racing)
Toolapcfan 06-04-2002, 01:13 PM Well, it's really not up for debate because it was done. In fact the car is for sale for $13K if you want to buy it. I can probably get anyone a phone number who is interested.
enjoyDride 06-04-2002, 01:49 PM How did they fit the trans? And get the shifter to sit in the right position, must have done a shit load of cutting into the center floor board. How did they rout the exhaust? What did they do to the Rack-N-Pinion, wouldn't you have to relocate it to fit the rear wheel drive trans? Sounds like a hell of a project..also how does it drive? Post some pic's

The GT4 and GT5 cars are not B14s. They are tube frame race cars. The only thing they have in common with a B14 is the name, and the shape of their fiberglass bodies. I raise the BS flag on this one. Without spending tons of money, there is no way. If he is selling the car for $13000, then he's taking a huge loss. Without pictures(not photoshopped ones), I don't believe it.
Toolapcfan 06-04-2002, 02:09 PM I agree Eric, he's got to be taking one hell of a loss as he probably spent that much just to have it done. From what I understand they did a lot of cutting into the floor to put a driveshaft hump in. If I can get pics I'll post them. Maybe I'll go look at the car and that way I can tell you guys what was done.
Brent 06-04-2002, 02:36 PM I considered doing the awd swap into my classic when i had the pulsar tranny sitting around. *If* you had the entire pulsar car to part out then the conversion would be a lot easier.
The things that kept me from doing it are the fact i'd have to cut the hell out of the rear to make room for the differential-remount the gas tank and the fact that there's no room to run an exhaust.
I think it would almost be easier to remount the pulsar frame-the entire rear half of the car- into the sentra and go from there. Or just swap the body off the sentra onto the pulsar unibody. Wonder if that could be done?
Just my .002 worth.
Brent
Da91NX 06-04-2002, 02:43 PM OR..... you could just import a Pulsar GTI-R.

IMO, it would be alot easier and cheaper to put a regular FWD DET in there and utilize the AWD and make a rear end for it. Nothing better than AWD.

WhiteSER 06-04-2002, 08:09 PM I just installed a rotary into my b14.. I made it awd with a special switch so I can make it rwd only so I can set up mad drifts.
