Have you ever seen a couple gear teeth that is on the crank that the timing chain runs on broken in an SR20DET or DE motor ? Me and my mechanic discovered it after I drove the car in the shop and scraped out the engine to change the bearing that I damaged. Have you in your ever encountered anything like that ? What can cause this and what damage can take place as a result of this

have never seen this or heard about it before till now. but i guess anything is possible. did you take apart the oil pump to see if it is damaged also. if so that might be the cause of bearing failure.

Lance what do you think would cause this ? The funny thing is there was no metal shavings to be found. I my self was astonished cause I actually drove the car to the shop thinking it was just a bearing knock I was going to repair. The SR20 God's must be on my side.

Big Z. What up ?

Search dsm's and crank walk they are notorious for it.....Yeah i seemed to pull the impossible too by breaking a timing chain in half as far as i can tell im one of the few who has had that happen

crank walk is when te crank developes "play" and moves side to side from timing side to trans side depending on different engine stresses. If your crank were to "walk" far enough i would imagine the crank teeth and the chain would start sheering each other or just snapping.

ive seen cams break venom, its usually whena oil passage in one cam journal area gets clogged and that part welds to the head while the engine is spinning
