: Me likey Ad22's!!!
blackb13 06-05-2002, 10:16 PM I finally put my scrap yard ad22 calipers and rotors on. I still have stock rims so there was grinding I had to do. It stops so much better that it's ridiculus. If you don't have an nx or have not done the swap, you need to go do it. I did the whole thing for less then $110 with pads, rotors, calipers, fluid and misc. parts.
Definately the best money I have spent on my car so far!
SERprise In WV 06-05-2002, 11:08 PM :D
I just scored a used AD22 setup, too. And your words are *precisely* what I want to hear. Thanks.
:D
james vick 06-06-2002, 12:12 AM Yep they work real nice. You have the s/s lines?:D
Bowlcut 06-06-2002, 01:08 PM Yea there is nothing better for the money :). Now to get me some SS lines. I want some soooo bad its not funny. maybe next month, since this month's car money is going to replace a blown axle
brian 06-06-2002, 03:48 PM these will soon be compared dirctly to the smc babk, I will let you know how they compare :) (same car)
blackb13 06-06-2002, 10:42 PM No s/s lines yet. These things take a little to get used to. No more rock hard, stomp the pedal to stop feel. These are nice and can be easily modulated. They are not spongy, but are not rock hard like my old brakes were. I was messing around doing some rather tough braking and these things barely got warm! My old setup would've been smoking! I don't even have name brand pads on them.
james vick 06-06-2002, 10:46 PM You can ajust the pushrod between the pedal and the m/c for some more feel. The s/s lines make it even better:D
Storm88000 06-07-2002, 12:42 AM Someone should list in here what exactly you need for the swap.
I mean obviously you need 2 rotors and 2 calipers, but where to get the loaded ones?

JUNKYARD!!!
There is one down here that has an NX, the brakes look all rusty, but I am sure they can be resurfaced. I think they want around $100 for both sides.
I know you will need to either cut the dust shield a little, or take it off. Correct me if I am wrong.
xDennis 06-07-2002, 11:39 AM did you get calipers from a NX w/ or w/o ABS?
at car-parts.com it is showing that some yards have fron rotors for 10 bucks + shipping and calipers around 40 each! thats a hella of a deal concidering courtesy wants almost 500 for it.
MaddMatt 06-07-2002, 11:45 AM but where to get the loaded ones?
Someone here (forgot who) said the A1 Cardone calipers from Carparts.com came with the mounting bracket (which you must have as well).
So, what you need:
calipers (and pads obviously)
rotors
mounting bracket
You can reuse the brake lines, but this is a good time to go stainless. You do not need to replace the MC. I've got the stock SE-R MC and it works perfectly. Pedal feel is excellent.

That all depends. If you order loaded calipers, you will get the carrier bracket and semi-met pads of unknown quality. The unloaded calipers will not have these, or the pad springs either.
www.Rockauto.com and www.Partsamerica.com link pictures of the actual units, so you can be sure. The pics are good enough in fact to check the brake spec, you can see the AD22 stamp on them w/ some pic enlargement.
The part description is for NX2000/SE-R(wrongo), JDM W/ ABS. These will werk w/o the ABS of course. The sensor pickup is on the axle so it's a non-issue.
BTW here are some pics from my (incomplete) install ---->http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19700

According to the writeup over on SE-R.net --->http://www.se-r.net/car_info/brake_performance.html you do need to cut it. I'm curious how Steve managed w/o doing that. Maybe just bent it back? For me it was easy, just pulled out the RotoZip and went at it. Broke a couple of bits but got most of it off. Then what little was left was pushed flush onto the knuckle.

Impact wrench. =D WOOHOO!!!
Yeah i splurged.
Toolapcfan 06-07-2002, 04:29 PM So I would suppose that to do all four would cost around $250? It'd be more work since you'd have to get the rears with the trailing arms and all. I want to do this on mine once I get one and swap the MC as well and put SS lines in.

?!?!?
Uh, Tool.........All four?
There is no reason to get the rears, they are not an upgrade. IIRC they are exactly the same. Rebuilt calipers or caliper rebuild that's not a bad idea ***.
As for the MC, i'm not planning on getting it unless i really don't like how the brakes feel.
DO check the SE-R.net info if you haven't already.
(EDIT) You doin this to the XE? Unless it desperately needs front brakes, wait for the SE-R. Even then just do the fronts. There is a post somewhere sayin they're commin up for sale everywhere.(/EDIT)

SERprise In WV 06-07-2002, 05:27 PM Paul--
Here's an interesting reply by the man, Andreas Miko himself, regarding my AD22vf upgrade:
If you are a little tight get NX2000 brakes up front and get NX2000 ABS rear rotors and calipers. The rear ABS rotors are taller than the front rotors but they are skinnier. This combo works realy well. Not that many people know that the ABS NX2000 has bigger rear brakes than the regular NX2000, both ABS and non ABS NX 2000s share the same front rotor. Well I am sure you will look into my advice again.
Interesting, huh? :D

blackb13 06-07-2002, 05:34 PM The dust guard only "really" needs to be cut in order to fit the larger ad22 mounting bracket. The rest of it I bent out of the way and it clears perfectly.
I'll have to check out the rear disc thing. The rears hardly do any stopping at all, so what's the point of even spending the money? Money I'd rather spend on s/s lines or better front pads. YMMV

So that's where the big rear rotors came from. I remember when I first ordered the NX front rotors from Courtesy Nissan, they accidentally sent me one front rotor and one rear rotor. The rear rotor was about the same diameter as the front rotor with the same bolt pattern... Thanks for clarifying.
Toolapcfan 06-07-2002, 07:48 PM Thanks paul. No that'd be when I get the SE-R.
ihateloops 06-16-2002, 04:04 AM the ad22's will work with the stock classic se-r wheels, right?
Bowlcut 06-16-2002, 07:15 AM you have to grind the caliper for them to fit behind the stock classic rims. not alot of work, just a little extra time to the install. took me forever to do it cause the grinder was a couple miles from me.
