I just swapped out my '94 tranny for a '95 tranny with only 33K on it. (5th gear issues and leaking switches)In the process of the swap (major pain) I noticed a couple of problems not in the archives. What is the electrical connector on the front of the tranny--I have nothing to hook up to it. The other is the connecting plug on the speedo unit. While they look similar, they are in fact not. Both trannys have electrical units. Any suggestions? The dealer says "how about a new harness?"

can u put a 95+ tranny on a 91-93? I know in 94 the trannys went from cable driven speedos to electronic speedos. Is there any kind of adapter?

my 93 is an electric speedo and the car was actually produced in late 92. The "electrical connector on the front of the trany" that you mentioned sounds like the one on the edge of the bell housing. it should have a long magnet looking bit pointing inwards and a 2 prong connector on the outside. If your old trany did not have it, you can just leave it in there or take it out. nothing to worry about with that. No extra harness is needed. etc... With the speedo sending unit you should be able to just unbolt your old one, put a new O ring on it and bolt it to the new trany. Swap them. The only thing you need to check before you do this is the size of the plastic gear on the speedo unit. Make sure they are the same size. I'm not 100% sure whether they are, but as I vaguely remember, they are the same gear. Hope this helps. These are easy tranies to rebuild!!!

This kind of swap has been done before, and somewhere in the SE-R List Archives is a writeup, or at least a rundown.

Not a search that I'd want to do, but it's there for the finding. Sorry I can't remember much more off the top of my head.
