I plan on going turbo. I've done a ton of research but I still have some unanswered questions  I want to make around 260-300HP. But since this is my daily driver, I think I should use a turbo that doesn't start to boost until around 3000rpm. I fingure that I would be able to drive in stop-and-go traffic, without constantly going in and out of boost. Anyone who lives in the DC/metro area should understand what I'm talking about :( Anyway, what turbo should I use? I planned on using a t28, but know I'm not so sure I should. What do you turbo guys suggest?

The t/28 is a really good turbo for a street car. It'll make about all the power you can use day to day. Look at the sticky about the disco potato at the top of this forum it's a nice setup.

You can drive a car around all dayw ithout going into boost. Car usually go into boost only when put into full throttle. You are worrying about the wrong things. Most supper chargers are dependant on RPM but not Turbos. You can have your turbo car at 5000 rpm just driving along part throttle and the car will not be in boost. When you mash the gas down then the car will go into to boost.

Yeah James I like the DP, unfortunately I don't have $1500 to spend on just a turbo :(
Hey Andreas thanks for the info. So you're saying that I would be alright with the GTIR setup that you told me about? What's the difference power wise between your BB and GTIR setup? And lastly your ehaust setup-is it a 2.5"dp w/3" exhaust or is it 2.5" all the way out?
Andreas, I know your a VERY busy man, and I appreciate you taking the time to help out a total stranger :) I do have some more questions to ask you. Is there a way we could discuss them. Preferable over the phone, between 9-4, when I don't have to pay for long distance;)

Victorious, I think that you will probably like the GTi-R setup a lot. That has nice drivability and will support ~260 whp with no problems.

Rob, is there another turbo similiar to that of you dp that can be had for like 1/2 the price? Or is the GTIR t28 just THAT good that it's really not worth spending the extra money to replace it with another t28, especially of one doesn't have the money.:(

As the driver of a freshly-converted T28 car, I can tell you that the turbo is indeed fantastic. It boosts quickly when needed, and the stock 7psi setting will be enough to scare you. Really. 260hp in a 2,500lb car will make some people pee their pants.

And listen to Andreas: You can drive around all day long without ever hitting boost. It's all dependent on engine load, which is determined by your right foot.

Get the T28. You will not regret it.

If you really want to see how a T28 behaves, then download my video in the Road, Rally, Drag, and Autocross forum, under the post titled 'In-car video of my car on a road course'. That will show you in real time what the T28 is like.

The GTI-R turbo is about half the price of the D/P turbo. It will do what you are asking for.

The D/P is an awesome turbo, but you'll get 85% of the performance from a GTi-R turbo.

Hey Rob, Is the turbo on an Avenir comparable to the GTI-R setup? I was thinking that it was a T28 also but I know the manifold makes a difference as well. I've heard swapping a GTI-R can be a pain, and that the Avenir is as easy as a BB but makes more power, perhaps due to the mechanical lifters. Thanks.

The avenir is identical to the Bluebird, so they have hydraulic lifters. The turbo in the Avenir might be ball bearing, but it is still a T25 with probably the same specs as the Bluebird T25.

What I want to know is if a GTi-R T28 with a T04 compressor housing (from an S14) will fit on an Avenir manifold and not strike the block. ;)

Probably. I'd be willing to bet the Avenir manifold is the Pulsar GTIR manifold. It wouldn't make sense for Nissan to retool to make 3 different kinds of manifolds instead of just using the PUlsar manifold already in existance.

Anyway we can figure out for sure?

I don't know where I got the idea that the Avenir had mechanical lifters. I don't know why I thought it had a T28 either.

looking at my setup, it looks like a bigger turbo will not clear the block (i have the avenir T25) i will look at it from the bottom and measure the distance from the block to the avenir compressor housing and let you guys know how it works.
