: Cryo Treating Rods and Pistons?!?

Are there any bad things about doing this?? I am about to assemble a motor with stock parts and want to get this done because I can get it done for relativly cheap. It will cost me less than 50$ for Rods, pistons, rings, and wrist pins. Is there anythign I dont want to Cryo?? How much should this help. I am attempting to get about 450-500 whp on the stock motor. I am 100% confident that the rods and crank can handle it. I am a little worried about the pistons since they are hyperutetic. They are a lot beefier than the DET pistons, and much bigger ring lands (except for the 3rd one by the oil ring which is the same size if not a tad bit smaller). I know detonation is going to be the key to keeping these from breaking.

Here is my issue. I am building a motor on the side right now. It is going to have a nitrated Forged crank, Shotpeen, polished, and cryoed stock rods, studded from top to bottom, and forged pistons. It will have a fully ported head with some very hefty cams. I dont have the money for everything right now. I do have the money for pistons but I dont want to put forged pistons in a stock motor for now and then buy forged pistons agian when I build by 600+hp motor. (going for low 9's on big turbo and a little N20)

Right now I want Mid to low 10's 450-500 is enought for that with the weight of my car. If I save from building the motor now I can buy a SE-R my friend found for me (thanks unlucky). Then i can start posting about that. It will be a simple 350whp daily driver. I want to do it with a stock DE and engine managment. I am going to keep it close to 300whp on pump gas.

What about coating the pistons. Money comes into play with this also. I dont want to pay 300$ for a coating on a motor that is going to be in my car for about 6-9 months (estimated build time on new motor)

Thanks guys.,..

I want that SE-R!!!!...........YOu dont need it, give it to the needy, heheh. well here is my input, treating the pistons is good, I dont reccomend the wrist pins though, just the pistons, I think that white lightning or whatever it is called is a pretty good method, also the gold stuff. YOU can do a search on se-r.net for that, or on here, but I doubt you will find it, I am hoping someone that knows the exact names chimes in on this,
good luck,
JCC

BTW- GIVE JUAN THE SE-R!!!

Guys-

This may be what you're looking for... www.swaintech.com

They are the leader in the industry in coating engine parts... give them a call to talk about your exact needs... Mike Kojima's high powered N/A SCC car has these coatings in it's engine...

I was already looking at getting swaintech, but I wanted to know if there were any adverse things about cryo treating pistons..
