Hey fellas I tried searching for this with "Teflon Tape" but i didn't find a thread that covered my question.

Which suspension bushings need the teflon tape trick? From what I read the rear bushing on the front control arm needs it. Are there any others?

I used it on my sway bar bushings because they are split style bushings.

I added grease slots and zerk fittings on all my suspension bushings, I don't think teflon tape would very work well on those ones.

There was a guy locally who was putting Teflon tape on his bushings. But not the Teflon tape you use for pipe sealing.

This was stuff that came in a sheet from either McMaster-Carr or MSC Industrial.

See "Bushings." It is covered and covered well. A couple of different links included.

Also, see the last few posts in the thread by Choaderboy2 (Mike K) and 98sr20ve (Steve). They further discuss the "suspension bind" and remedies. I have not yet incorporated their new dialogue into the main body of the thread itself.

So it was NOT Teflon tape... it was Teflon Sheet !

I think the meaning of his question is... Which poly-bushings should we do the Teflon trick on and which not. For example, on rear parallel links it cannot be done.

Have only tried it with the bushings on the Progress sway bars, but wkdser found teflon sheet (thicker/tougher than tape); we cut pieces to fit between the bushing and the bars; AMAZING difference in suspension compliance just doing the bars. Might try some of this stuff with the poly suspension bushings; should change both noise and compliance.
I have done that with both my front and rear swaybars. You can do this with swaybar bushing, since the bushings are slit down the side, so you can open them up tp slip them over the bar w/o disturbing the teflon. But the problem with all the other bushings, is there is no room for even grease between the bushing and sleeve, so definitely no room for teflon
I dunno if that helps or not?

According to Johnand, you cannot use Teflon sheets on any other bushings because it simply will not fit, the tolerances are too tight between the bushing and the sleeve.

Subscribed to thread. I would love to see some more definitive answers.

Yeah I meant which ones get the teflon and which don't. THat is the question i was trying to clear up. Thanks shawn for the links i'll have to look at those threads.

No problem, I am merely a well read student of our suspensions. :)

I am interested in any other input into this question. Keep in mind, I cannot point out most of the suspension peices (rear parallel links referred to by hpro123) that we are discussing.

A definitive list of exactly where the teflon tapes goes would be great. When Johnand says "all" the other bushings cannot be done (see quote), what/where exactly does that leave us with to utilize the Teflon sheets? :melonscratcher:

The answer is use your noggen. Thats probably why no one anwered this thread. Any bushing that moves axialy can use the tape. You can probably use the teflon sheets as thust bearings for some of the bushings but I have never bothered. I think you can get them as thin as 0.015" thick.
