: What should I look for in a Classic when getting one?
cossieturbo 06-08-2002, 07:38 PM I'm thinking about getting rid of my NX2000 and finding a Classic that has never been hit. I have a nice HKS cat back for a 91-94 and I may just get the car to go with the exhaust and transfer my parts over. What should I look for in the Classic as far as problems that may be different then the NX2000?

Serban 06-09-2002, 01:06 PM 5th gear popout would be your biggest concern. Other things are minimal, like sagging doors, stuff like that.
Just make sure no 5th gear popout.
Storm88000 06-09-2002, 04:22 PM Cloudy or water in the headlights, broken climate controls, climate controls that dont work on 1-2-3....sagging doors like Serban said...motor mounts....
KikoSanchez182 06-09-2002, 04:39 PM 91-92, watch out for those, their ugly!
j/k :)
sr20sleeper 06-09-2002, 05:22 PM just curious, what kind of mods do you have and what are you looking to get ($$) for the egg. I was thinking about selling my classic to get an NX. Has yours been wrecked? Maybe we could work out a deal?

If its a keeper, stay away from northern or beach cars. salt eats metal. look under the door, hood, trunk for rust. run carfax report on vin#.
sleeping 91ser 06-09-2002, 06:13 PM also look in the door jams for rusting, as it tends to start there a lot of times.

RED 91 SE-R 06-09-2002, 06:36 PM saggind doors, stuff like that.
Serban, what do you mean by sagging doors? Maybe I have that, and how do you fix it?

Basically when you open the door, it sags (falls a little). You will need to get new hinges. That was my very first mod on my car. Cost me $336 installed at the dealer. I just wish I knew then what I know now, I could have saved a LOT of money.
cossieturbo 06-10-2002, 05:15 PM Thanks for all of your help blokes!!!
Sagging doors? oh! That's bleedin interesting. That's one problem I have not had with the NX.
"sr20sleeper", It's basic stuff... Rebuilt and cryo treated trany with weld filled axle spot, Plug wires, bypassed throttle coolant, grounded MAF, Pop charger with S.S. Blitze filter, Gen 4 HS, old Genie muffler, 2nd frame welded under the car, JWT trany/passenger mounts with ES firewall/dog bone mounts, GAB shocks, eibach springs, powerstop front rotors, corrected EGR ;), Stinger battery, Rear ST bar, I think you get the idea. Little stuff. I'm not sure what i'm going to do. I have never had an accident with it, but I suspect that the dealer had repainted the front rignt fender as the paint is a bit rough there. It had 69 miles when I purchased it. It's black and the paint is in very good shape. I do like the car though.

Care to share?
stensland 06-10-2002, 10:42 PM Watch for water leaking into the trunk as well. It tends to leak in around the tail lights. It's an easy fix though (a little silicone).

If I knew how to change the door hinges, axles, oil, struts, springs, starter, header, etc. I could have saved a lot of money. I can do all these things by myself. 4 years ago, I had no idea what an air filter was, or where it was located.
