my car's been blowing the AC fuses like crazy this past week. James vick and i opened up the dash and the ac switch/plug looks ok. the wires looks very good and its tied/taped up nicely from what i can see.. i dont see how there could be a fray/short at that part
so james got under the car and started to look around the compressor and all the wires there were okay as well.
so , as a last resort, i started putting 15A fuses instead of the 10A (factory spec). that popped shortly and I stuck a 20A in there and it popped , too.
they usually last 5 / 10 minutes before they go.
whats causing my fuses to pop?

Sometimes your A/C clutch gets old and draws to much current because the coil of wires break down. All it is, an electromagnet that when powered it draws the assembly into the locked position. This was a problem I had on my '88 Isuzu Trooper. I would also have the Freon checked to make sure you have the right amount in the system. Most likely, it's with the clutch though. Replace it. It's not a big deal.
You may have to rent a tool to pull the clutch from Autozone. It depends on how your clutch assembly is made.
A word of caution: If you have gone over more than 5 amps rating of the stock fuse and it still doesn't fix it like you have, you need to find the problem and stop sticking fuses in there. You stick too big of a fuse in there and you have a serious fire hazard on your hands when the wire melts it's insulation off and possibly melts nearby wires with it causing shorts EVERYWHERE!
Good Luck...

Check your CD player if any wire is touching together.
I have a problem with that before taht keep blowing my Speed and RPM gauge light and my taillight

IMO, a way to find your faulty part/ or maybe wiring is to first find out which components are tied to that fuse/circuit(have a handful of fuses-the correct amperage).
Start unplugging components 1 at a time till the fuse stops blowing. or you can do it the other way around-start w/all components disconn and plug each one in.
If all components are disconnected-still blows-do resistance tests on the wiring looking for shorts.

what exactly would i be looking for behind the aftermarket cd player? there is a MESS of wires back there but it's always been like that and has always worked ?
Ever get this figured out? I just got the AC fixed on the Celica and it's doing this same thing- when there is enough freon in there and it gets compressed enough so that the high speed fan in the compressor kicks on, this fuse blows and the gauges bounce around and the flashers flash. Could it be the radio? I swapped one out for her last year.

my fix was paying close to a grand for a complete rebuild :o
Rebuild of what? AC system? Wiring?

if you have the wiring diagram why not just use a DMM and check for continuity and voltage and ground see whats goin on?
but since you have a short to ground in one of your circuits check for ground on all your power wires. (am i correct on this i hate ac systems).
