Where would be the best place to have the tip of my exhaust cut off about 2 inches?

It is a 3" stainless rolled edge tip that extends too far out of the rear of the car AND the rolled edge is causing unwanted pitter pattering from the exhaust pressure. And it is welded to the muffler, so I will have to take the rear section off when it does get cut off.

I want to have approx. 2" cut off of the tip, but do not want it to be all hacked up. Once that is cut off, I'll end up repolishing it to a shine. It will hopefully look similiar to the stock IS-300 or the new Eclipse exhaust tip.

could you just cut 2" off the exhaust pipe right before the muffler?

It may be easier to just get a new tip than to cut and hack and polish the old one. just a thought.

The tip is welded on perfectly to the muffler. It is a smooth and clean bead of weld all the way around the tip and it would not be an easy task to replace it. The muffler is also polished stainless, so I do not want to fudge up the finish.

This is a complete cat back custom set-up. I can not cut any piping off of the back because the factory muffler was 17.5" long and this one is 18" long. It is approx. 1" away from the sway bar, so there is not any room there for error.
