: ES inserts....JWT mounts...Or stock replacement???
NismoNx2000 06-10-2002, 01:25 PM Ok guys, im looking to replace two of my motor mounts, the passenger side, and the rear engine/tranny mount....What should i go with here?? SHould i just use the stock replacement mounts and maybe get some es inserts to go along with them?? What do you think?? Im thinking at least one of my mounts is bad, becasue when i step on the gas and let off, the car jerks back a little bit, especially in the lower gears at lower rpm's. Your advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance...John.
sleeping 91ser 06-10-2002, 01:35 PM John- I would get a stock replacement for the passenger side and get es mount inserts for the two torque positions(rear firewall and front dog bone)

NismoNx2000 06-10-2002, 01:40 PM Thanks Sean, thats pretty much what i was thinking myself. I dont want to break the bank on the jwt set of 4, so ill probably go with the stock replacement on the right and the inserts in the front and rear. How can you tell if the mount is bad in the rear though?? What are some signs to look for?? Thanks again..
John
sleeping 91ser 06-10-2002, 01:48 PM it could start to dry rot and look worn away, but even if its not bad I would still order the torque position mounts, when I replaced my front mount with a es insert it made a huge difference, and with it you get the back one so you might as well throw the back one in there two even if it isnt bad. The front insert is a total replacement for the mount and the rear one is just an insert that goes over the existing mount.

Andreas Miko 06-10-2002, 02:02 PM Get the complete ES motor mount 4 set. I will sell them to you pressed for $120 shipped to you. All you have to do is instale them and send me back your stock ones. If you only get 2 you will put the extra stress of the motor on the stock ones.
Thanks Andreas Miko
NismoNx2000 06-10-2002, 02:59 PM Now, just to double check that Andreas, this is a complete es set that replaces my stock mounts correct?? Not inserts. how long do you think it would take to get those to me if i ordered them from you by wednesday?? I will be changing the clutch on my car and i would like to know so i can do them both while im under there. Thanks very much in advance...John
98sr20ve 06-10-2002, 03:16 PM Nissan Motorsports also sells the engine mounts now. I would look at the new catalog. They sell inserts and the factory style mounts. For example: the rear firewall mount was $30.

sleeping 91ser 06-10-2002, 04:02 PM with all four you will experience a lot more vibration than with just the two torque mounts but for the price that andreas is selling them it would work out to be the same money probably and you wouldnt have to press the front mount in and it would hold the engine much better but be aware for a decent amount of vibration if you do that.

Storm88000 06-10-2002, 04:58 PM Listen here people:
The Energy suspension mounts are probably the BEST mod to do. That and the short shifter. And they are not expensive. They are mods you use every time you drive your car.
I wouldn't even think of having an SE-R without the ES mounts. The throttle response, handling, shifting, and general behavior of the front of the car is incredible compared to the stock mounts. My advice, get 'em and go hunting. :)

Ditto.. For ~$30, do it yourself and you get off cheap (with a lot of bitching and moaning, though).
playatx99 06-10-2002, 10:48 PM im not sure why people make such a big fuss over the torque position inserts.... its one of the easiest mods i have yet done.... definitely much less of a pain than a CAI, header, or even catback
FastNX 06-10-2002, 10:57 PM I have all 4 and there is a bit more vibration, but not really noticeable unlessyou really look for it. I would not hesitate to go for all four. Also to cure that super-annoying snap you should reground the MAF and clean the TB, I just did the TB today and it made a noticeable difference in driveability. Let's see how the fuel mileage situation is....
NismoNx2000 06-11-2002, 08:59 AM WEll, i will be getting the 4 set from Andreas as soon as he gets back to me about it. And, i have recently cleaned my throttle body and my maf has been regrounded for a few months now, so the jerking must be from the motor mounts i would assume. Thanks for the suggestion though.

GTIRG20 06-11-2002, 04:13 PM Since we are on the topic, I need to replace my stock mounts on my P10(94 G20) Since there really is no aftermarket support for the mounts what is the best route to take? Engine vibration is not a problem, but the mounts must handle 300+ lbs torque.
shumax 06-11-2002, 07:18 PM What about filling the mounts with that urathane? Ben has been kind enough to put my clutch in for me this month and we plan to fill my mounts with that urathane. Any thoughts on that approach? I am sure some of you have done this. Have you had the stuff crumble out over time? How about the response to the way the car handles....etc.
Thanks,

Benito Malito 06-11-2002, 08:30 PM I had es inserts for over a year, and they sucked. I had serious wheel-hop issues, and had to baby the car like a sissy.
The firewall one is the one which does the most work. After reading posts from Ben, and others, I ordered urethane from McMaster, and replaced the firewall mount. After pouring my own mount for the firewall, the car now functions like it's supposed to. I can launch from 4.5k rpm's, and have no bogging, and no hopping. The launches are optimal for my car's state of tune.
I don't care if it corrodes, cause I'd order it again, and replace it again cause it was a snap. The es inserts make more noise too, cause they transmit more vibration to the interior. The new mount is more robust, and much quieter.
If I had it to do over I would pour all my own mounts. However the other three es mounts seem to do the job well. The firewall one was inadequate for my needs. If you are on a budget, and have some time try pouring your own.
oh and ps: the car handles betteer too. The suspension botoms out less due to the fact that the engine is under better control.
shumax 06-11-2002, 08:58 PM When you say "pour" them, what exactly do you mean? Having never done it, obviously, I am curious what all is involved. Do you have to dig the old mount out and then pour this stuff in place of the old mount? Or do you just pour this new stuff in over top of the old mount?
Eitherway, thanks for the nice writeup---I was curious what would happen to the car. Ben said it would make it vibrate a bit more, but nothing horrible.
Thanks,

SuperblkStalion 06-11-2002, 09:50 PM i did it and never regret it. just make sure u have time like a whole weekend when u do not plan on using your car. you do not have to dig anything out, just buy taht stuff from mcmasters and they are already premeasured for you. you just take the mounts out(i did the firewall and the tranny side mount as well as teh wishbone one in the, the passenger side one i had pressed already with another insert) and put sone ducted tape on one side of each, mix the goop in et can provided and pour. in 48 hours u should have solidass motor mounts. as for vibration , there was not too much that u can;t live with. what makes me more uncomfortable is teh noise of the headers, but that is another subject. do the urethane yourself, very easy and again i have no complaints to say about it

Benito Malito 06-11-2002, 10:56 PM Personally I dug out the whole mount, and left a bit in to hold the pin in the original location. This may result in a more stout piece. Duct tape on one side, and mix, and pour. Keep pouring, as some air bubbles precipitate out, and fill it all in.
The reason it is quieter than es mounts is that it will not stick out on the sides. The es pieces in the tranny and firewall stick out. This joins up he bracket coming off the engine, and the crossmember. (If you know what I mean, it's hard to picture). The result is two-fold. More vibration transmitted to the passenger cpmpartment, and people (like me) complain about how it took forever to line up the pin in the firewall mount.
It's easy to install, and while it does conduct vibration, mostly at full throttle. There is alot of feedback through the pedals, wheel , and stick. "I like it a lot". Much quieter cabin though.
FastNX 06-12-2002, 11:17 AM so if we do that urethane filling, the rear mount will line up properly? that was the worst part of the install for me. Is the product itself called mcmasters? would it be available at home depot? looks like i got another thing to do next winter.....
