Alright, say someone really screwed up and did not follow the FSM like he should have and took the timing chain tensioner off before he tried to set the No. 1 piston at TDC. Then lets say this caused the timing chain to skip a few teeth when that someone tried to set the piston at TDC. Also assume that person has no idea how many teeth skiped if any at all. Then let say that person was me. How screwed am I. The FSM is not very clear on this one. It talks about a gold link and two silver links on the chain but I have only seen the gold colored link. So to sum it all up, HELP!

Put the crank at TDC(yellow mark on the crank pulley). The intake cam at 10:00 and the exhaust cam at 12:00. There needs to be 20 pins(rollers) between the 2 dots on the gears. All of this is in the FSm under the timing chain replacement section. I have have been reading my FSM a lot lately, so I remember seeing it. Do not drive the car or start it until you fix this. If you do drive it, then you really are screwed.

Thanks, I just saw the roller information in the FSM. So the rollers are the pins and not the links correct? So does the number of rollers include the ones touching the gear teeth at the mark on the sproket, or everything in-between.
The engine is not even in the car, so no danger of starting the car. Thanks

If its not in the car, then take the front cover off, if you can, and line everything up. The dots on the gears line up between 2 rollers on the chain.

Thanks Eric. I plan on taking most of the engine apart anyway so this should be no problem. After thinking about it and reading the FSM more closely I think I got a little more freaked out than I needed to. Thanks again.
