: Tar + 2 yr old + teeter totter
SmoothDaddyFig 06-10-2002, 07:52 PM Well, I have totally stripped my interior.
All the tar is gone. No dry ice was used. Just a chisel and flat head screwdriver. I dont have a weight scale so I put all the tar in a bucket , including the rubber crap between the dash and firewall. This shit was Heavy!!! I used my lil girls fisher price teeter totter and placed her on one side and held the bucket on the other. She weighs 25 lbs. She was no match for the bucket.
I think its like 50 lbs.
I need to find my DAMN Digi-Cam!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love to get rid of my A/C but its too damn hot in FLA.
DaGenesis 06-10-2002, 08:10 PM haha :D :D
i like the scale you used, thats hillarious.
llaprad1 06-10-2002, 09:55 PM LOL!
I clicked this thread out of curiosity thinking, "What the hell could tar and a toddler have to do with each other?!?!"
Damn... now I know.:p
Serban 06-10-2002, 09:58 PM Jon, you are a nut, take that bucket to a supermarket and use the scale they have in there. :D

Think twice about that one. The way the world is today someone will think you are trying to bomb Publix or something. Anyway great inginunity on the make shift scale, I LIKE IT!!! I laughed so hard when I read that!! :p
Loe Lyf 06-10-2002, 11:36 PM You think you've done weight reduction? I'm in the middle of my DET swap, and I've removed so far:
Power steering
A/C
A/C bracket (weighs more than the compressor)
A lot of brackets
ABS
Washer fluid resevoir
All airboxes
Bumper supports (to make room for intercooler)
all power steering and A/C brackets, hoses, and resevoir
I think my NX will weigh 1000 pounds when I'm done!:D
Mike sr20de 06-11-2002, 10:55 AM hey Figgs,
if we were all monkeys you would be the one using the stick as a tool!:D
You're killing me here Figgy. You're the man!!!
Toolapcfan 06-11-2002, 07:54 PM If you're going that far Loe Lyf, I would suspect that you're going to be removing seats and interior as well.
SE-Rican 06-11-2002, 08:26 PM At the rate your going Jon you are going to run your car dry!!:D
Ps. I also have the inside tip on what else you have done to take weight off your car!;)

Maybe at the track, but not on the street.
What's the tar's purpose in the first place?
Wouldn't it be to aid in sound deadening?

He got it.
domiguy 06-12-2002, 12:21 PM yeah, I believe it's sound deadening to help keep the inside of the car quieter
SmoothDaddyFig 06-12-2002, 03:49 PM Hey Gents!!!
Heres a tar removal tip:
The tar on the drivers side front is a bitch compared to the rest of the car. That stuff is REAL TAR!!! The other crap is some compound looking tar. I actually sweated like a pig taking off the drivers side tar.
I might take it to Publix to use their scale. Cant wait for the looks on that one.
The noise level isnt that bad at all without the stuff.
I hear my tiress rollin though. With the windows up!!! DOH!!
And my son complained that his feet get hot from the engine!!! LOL..........
I told him I sacrificed comfort for speed!!!
Loe Lyf!!!! you are *** man!!! Im on your tail though!!!
Its too hot here to remove the a/c. But once the compressor quits, its coming off!!!
I would apreciate any other tips on losing weight.
I have taken off:
bottom portion of the dash :D ,
the brace around the glove box
the brace around the bottom of the steering wheel.
(Those 2 are like 10 pounds easy!!)
trunk supports
all interior paneling :D
center tailights
washer fluid resovoir ( however you spell it )
alot of unneeded sheet metal
everything with 2 screws was replaced with one screw. YIKES!!!
Wow, Figgy. At this point I don't know whether to call you DEDICATED or OVERBOARD. :) When your son complains that his feet are hot from the engine or exhaust heat getting thru the floorboard, I think that may be a good time to stop. :)
I commend your hardcoreness for speed and weight reduction, but man, I dunno if I would do that to my family car...
When I tore all my carpet and tar out it was hot enough that day that I just grabbed a corner of the tar, carefully pulled on it, and removed each sheet in nearly one piece. It helped that it was like 101 that day. There are still little bits around where it was glued down, and some sound deadening against the firewall under the dash, but I'll get rid of that soon. I'd agree with that 50 lbs or so myself, I estimated about 40lbs when I took out everything I did.
I might actually do this, as long as my carpet won't be set on fire. :) I'm all about NVH in B13s :)
Bowlcut 06-12-2002, 05:24 PM fig check for that big round bar on the bumper. lay down and look up under the bumper its held on with like 4 bolts. its about 10 lbs id guess. does nothing but reduce vibrations as far as i can tell.
