One of my SE-r has an occasional rising temp problem. It's always easily dealt with by turning the heat on, but summer is coming, so (damn it!) I'm going to fix it once and for all.

My plan is the usual:

NX 2000 radiator
300zx rad cap
Nissmo thermostat (to open sooner)
Upgraded fans
I'll do the pully thing if need be after I try the above out.

I have a few of questions I can't find answered in the searches.

Can I use the Altima Fans in a b13? Trimming and all is fine, but I'd like to know it doesn't require removing the AC compressor or something.

Is there a good thermostat that opens around the same temp as the Nismo that doesn't cost like 10 TIMES what a regular thermostat does? It just seems crazy, I spent 8 dollars or so on my last Nissan thermostat from the stealership. The Nissmo ones are something like 70 dollars! I'll spend it if that's what it takes, but I'd love to find out there's another brand that works as well but is missing whatever "chic" value it is that makes the nismo one "worth" so much more.

Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket temperature guage, preferably one that's reasonably easy to install? I'm getting lost in options without enough knowledge to decide what direction to go in.

Thanks guys -

Whats done to the car? If its not turbo then your stock fans will work just fine. With my stock fans running all the time my car used to never hit anything over like 160deg on a 100deg day. Thats a cool car!

Honestly the Nismo Thermostat is over kill though. With just the NX radiator and a Z cap you should be good. I would just bleed your stock system first though...

It's basically stock -- some silicone hoses and grounding kits and the like, but no turbo or real upgrades. I have bled the system without much change.

This engine has always tended to spike after running w/ the ac on for a while -- my other 2 ran fine stock no matter what. It gets hellishly hot here and with the AC running, this one can't handle it from some unknown reason.

on my p10,i ran 50/50 and it started to overheat with teh a/c on on hot days..tried the 300zx cap and no luck..read up some and i drained 3/4 of a galon out and filled the rest with water..no more problems...thats similar to a 80-20 or 70-30 water to antifreeze mix

or you can run straight water w/water wetter. thats what i did with my p10(of course i am turbo) but it helped out a lot.

Interesting. I hadn't even considered the mix might be part of the issue. I'll definitely check it out. It isn't like it's going to hard freeze around here with a 70 30 mix or there abouts.

So very good of you to drop by. :)

If you decide to upgrade your fans:

And Chriscar has a cheaper alternative for upgraded fans:

Have you checked the sensors on that vehicle?

Where in NM are you? I live in the El Paso region of TX, and during the spring/summer months, and beginning of fall, I run mostly just water, with water wetter, or antifreeze. Then during the fall I drain and winterize the car by going to a 50/50 mix.

Hi Shawn. The sensors are pretty much all new, as is the water pump. I gave her a work over and even a bath when the engine was swapped from one SE-r into the other. I see nothing odd when she's hooked up to calum consult, the only thing that's odd is the temp spiking. Sucks 'cause this one is my favorite Se-r.

Thanks for the links. I'm just not in the mood right now to spend SPAL prices, which is what I know cools your black beauty.

edit: Oh man, Shawn, it got hurt! I'm way late, but I'm so sorry....

Maybe next week. :) Might go the 2 for 70 route.

I'm in Albuquerque. Cold nights, hot days. Dry. I can't believe I never even considered the mixture I was using as part of the culprit.
