I found a classic that is relativly close to me. Car is a '91 w/ 125K. No mods. Asking price is 3000.00. I went to edmunds and the retail ~2500 and the private sell is ~1800. What would be a fair price for this car assuming that it is pretty clean?
TIA,

Depends on how bad you want it. I always figure that fair is somewhere between trade in and private party, because I don't care what a $tealership wants. (Have you seen what $tealerships want for average to high mileage classics on Autotrader? Like $4K to $6K!!!) I wouldn't give him more than $2K for it if I really wanted it, unless it was freakin' pristine. There's a lot of people out there trying to get way too much for classics and I don't know what they're smokin' but I'm not buying 'em for what they're asking. Shit, I can afford to turn my XE into an SE-R top to bottom for less than what some people are asking. (When I say people I mean $tealerships on Autotrader). When you checked edmunds what condition did you put the car in? I usually pick the top three so I can get different numbers in my head so that when I see it up close I know how much is the most I should pay. I'd seriously pay as much as $2000, unless it was prefect in every aspect and in that case I'd be looking it over with a white glove and magnifying glass. That's my $0.02
