Hey guys,

well i have had an adapter with a cone filter on since i got my car .(filter method) my freind told me to take off my fog light and cut a big hole in and use the stock components without the air filter to serve a perpose of a cold air (ghetto) and i did that and it felt faster but not loud lol so i was running it hard and i was maxing out third and put my clutch in and the bitch turned off was this due to 2 much air going in? what method is better?

lemme get this straight: you were driving WITHOUT any type of filter?

uhh, not smart. especially since you have a direct path for objects to be sucked up into your intake!!

you can make a ghetto CAI, but you MUST use some sort of filter element.

i suspect your car realized that you were driving w/o a filter and decided against committing suicide, so it shut itself down.

WTF man, don't listen to your friends... There is a reason why they put filters on cars... This is not Japan, so it is not cool to run around with no filter. I know SS & SCC say JAPANIMAL is cool, but its not. Save your self the headache and get a filter on that thing.
The filter method will always be somewhat restrictive, but not too much. My guess why it shut down is the MAF was reading way too much and decided to say Sorry, but NO. As for the clutch thing you said.....?

YOU ARENT GOING TO NOTICE A DIFFERENCE WITH A FILTER IN THERE OR NOT, ARE HARD AS YOUR ENGINE CREATES VACUME A SMALL FILTRATION DIVICE IS NOT GOING TO FAZE YOUR POWER. AS FAR AS COLD AIR I SAY HELL YEA BECAUSE THE COLDER THE AIR IS THE MORE OXYGEN ENTERS THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER, BA BOOM! I HAD A POP FILTER ON MINE WITH THE STOCK RUBBER HOSE AND I THOUGHT THAT I GOT MORE POWER FROM THE STOCK AIR BOX BECAUSE IT HAS DUCTS THAT RUN TO THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR WHERE THE COLD AIR IS. THEY DO SOUND COOL THOUGH. IF YOU DO BUILD A CAI TRY TO MAKE IF FROM SOME SORT OF METAL BECAUSE IT RESONATES, AND SOUND BETTER, THE STOCK RUBBER OBSORBS MUCH OF THE INTAKE NOISE. BUT PLEASE PUT A FILTER ON THERE.

AS FAR AS YOUR CAR NOT RUNNING. MANY TIMES IF YOU MAKE A DRASTIC CHANGE LIKE THAT IT IS WISE TO RESET YOUR ECU SO THAT IT CAN ADAPT ITSELF TO THE NEW WAYS OF LIFE. WHEN I PUT ON MY INTAKE, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS FORCED TO RESET MY COMPUTER. THERE IS A SMALL PLASTIC SKREW HEAD THAT YOU TURN TO THE LEFT FOR 5 SEC AND THEN TO THE RIGHT, AND JUST LEAVE IT (I THINK THATS THE RIGHT ORDER, SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG). THEN START YOUR CAR AND LET IT IDLE FOR A FEW MINUTES. THAT MIGHT SOLVE YOUR WORRIES.

BTW I have also heard that you can puch a few hole in your muffler to get that "tough guy" sound. Hey that could compliment the whole COOL sounding intake noises...

Or you could just disconnect your battery for 30minutes to reset the ecu....

I heard the newest thing to do is to run around your car with a drill and drill out metal for weight reduction.:p
