reciprocating saw and some pliers will make you a nice hood scoop. just cut out 3 sides of a box, bend it up a little and use a jack antenna ball with a screw impaled through it to create a buffer to keep your newly made hood scoop from either opening the rest of the way making a hole instead of a scoop and to keep it from buffeting.

ask terrin (92 SE-R) about the functionality of this setup.

Steve is not joking, Brian. I have seen this setup. Ask Terrin if he will send you a Jack-In-The-Box ball for your car, if you decide to go this route. :D

I will provide an anti-flapping mechanism for your hood scoop free of charge. You just pay shipping. I will include all parts needed. Some drilling required.

I am also letting go a pristine pre-cut hood with custom body work done to it. Goes well with non black B13's for very light carbon fiber look. Make me an offer. You pay shipping from 92126.

If you purchase this hood, I will pre-install the anti-flap mechanism for you, free of charge.

Didn't someone do an rx7 t-2 scoop on a sentra before? I think I saw it off of this board like waaaaaaaay back in the day. Anyways... how bad would it be to run the interheater in 90-110 deg weather at stock boost considering I drive anywhere from 60-90 miles per day for work? Just wondering... TIA.

umm, with stock boost, it shouldnt blow up, hopefully. it would just run like ass due to sky high intake temps. i would stay out of boost during the day.

remember, heat rises, so that intercooler is absorbing a lot of heat from the engine (enough to cause the visible heat waves aven with the hood off) and with high ambient temps, the intake charge will only go up, at that point, i am not even sure if the intercooler will help you.

Well about 3 years ago i had a hood which used a Mustang GT hood scoop with a slim line fan in it. My interheater temps were
70-90 degrees under boost according to my intake temp gauge.
After a hard run i would pullover, pop the hood, touch the intercooler and it would be cold to touch. This was the original hood used on the intial fmax kit protype B13 prior it had the BB set-up. I was surprised how well it worked .

That is most interesting. Mustang GT; like the early/mid-80s-ish 5.0 hood scoop? Do you still have any pictures? Aside, I just finished reading a pretty interesting article on CAI development at AutoSpeed. Some of these principles could apply to us, too, but I don't know how to get a vacuum switch instead of a pressure switch. :)Siting Cold Air Intakes (http://www.autospeed.com/A_1023/P_1/article.html)

I will see if i could dig up some pics. it was an 85 gt scoop mounted cowl induction style with a puller fan blowing on the IC.
At the drag strip after 3-4 runs the intake temp gague was reading 110-120 degrees. Which isnt bad considering its was high 80 degree outside temps.

i will take it, the ball screw thing...., my car is a b14, so the hood wont work, but do you have a template for the hole? any pics? thanks all,

I will probably install a WRX hood scoop this weekend. I painted it about two weeks ago, I like the way it looks on the hood. I will post some pics when it is done.

It has been on John Minnic's (ProjectSE-R) car since about late February or so, Chris. I did the front-mount thang.

Boy, that'd be nice to see. Poke him with a large stick to post some pictures.

what i really want to do is a "shaker"style scoop, that is attached to the ic and comes up through the hood, and use weatherstrip to keep unwanted water off my engine, like the "smokey and the bandit t/a.

also is there any way to put a heat shield behind-under the ic, kind of like the exhaust to help keep engine heat from rising into it?

heat will still rise, and be absorbed by the intercooler. you would have to come up with a really good heat shield and swain coat it to make sure NO heat hits the intercooler.

all this work to make something that barely works, work decently? why? a front mount setup is NOT hard at all, and would take the same amount of patience rigging up a "shaker" style scoop and heat shield and weather stripping, only to worry about water hitting your injector harness and heat soaking your intercooler.

everytime someone comes up with this thread, they end up doing a front mount, becuase frankly, it isnt worth it to top mount it.
