I have about 1000 miles on the current oil.
Would you change the oil before the 8 hour drive? Or right before the track day, Friday morning?
Or does it matter? I'm pretty sure I need to change it after the track day, yes?

I would change it when you get home. My oil in my VE will have 3 track days on it, but less than 1500 miles when I get home from the Convention; so I'll probably change it then. I used German Castrol this time, so I'll do another oil analysis also.
I wouldn't hassle with an oil change the day of the track day unless something major required it.
Just my $0.02.

I would do it after the event. Shouldn't be contaminated for quite some time, but just in case you overheat the oil (extremely likely with SR20s that don't have oil coolers), I would change it after the track event.

I'm changing mine, since it's time for the summer oil. Louis since this is the first time with the VE on the track, use 15w-50 to keep the temps down.

Temps actually end up hotter with this oil, but it's less watery and less likely to run the sump dry...
And no, I didn't break your shit Erich, that was the Boogie Man...

Running 15w-50 vs 10w-30, seems to give me more time before the oil gets too hot. With a smallish track this year, we'll see what happens.
