Why do PM alerts keep popping up when I have no PM's? This happens every time I hit the back button to read another thread.

Have you checked and deleted the sent messages. Your inbox maybe empty but the sent items could be full.

Well it's probably because when you first got to that page (the one you go to when you hit the back button) you DID have a new pm, and when that page first got created it had the command to give you that alert. But since you press back, the browser loads up the saved cached page and you still get the alert, even if you already did check it. So the fix would be not to press back, but use another method to return to that page

OR

You actually might have new messages, but you don't see them because your time property might not be properly set. I know I had this problem before and I had to look at the PM's from a day or a week or from the beginning and I would see the new one(s). The way to fix this would be to set the time properly in your settings. Go to User Control Panel, then Edit Options, then scroll down to Date & Time Options and set the Time offset, for you it should be the one that says "(GMT -5:00 hours) Eastern Time (US & Canada), Bogota, Lima, Quito"

My time property was incorrect so I made the change. Still, evertime I hit the back button to read a different thread I get a PM notification yet no PM's are available. Very screwy indeed.

If you press the back button, the page that was loaded with the PM notice will still be displayed. Press the logo at the top or press the go button at the bottom of the screen to get a newer page.

Shoes, try cleaning out your temporary internet files (if you have windows). That should wipe out your cache and your cookies, which may fix the problem.

Jim if you are using a "proxy" this can be the reason. A proxy caches all internet activities on one network. When you hit the back button the previous "cache" page gets loaded where it told you you had a PM.

To solve this, when you hit the back button just hit the refresh button or right click and select refresh. This should clear the old cache and download a new page image.

I hope that helps!

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I've experienced this where I work over the summer. At work, I'm on a network with a proxy server and it caches everything to hell. :(

It didn't. I wonder if my new ISP has anything to do with this. I seem to be experiencing other glitches since I signed up with Frontier.

Heres the really strange part. I'll enter the forums and click on the General Discussions link and read some posts. I hit the back button to go to the VE board for example and the PM alert box appears. The strange thing is when I do this the dates for all the message boards read 6/5 yet when I open another board the dates are 6/13.

Is this somehow related to my DSL/ISP service?

That seems to be the problem, it looks like you are reading a cached page instead of the most current. So somewhere there is a cached page you are getting whether it is on your computer or your ISP's server I don't know. So when you view that page with the 6/5 date, do you still see the new postings? Or do you only see the ones from that date?
