: My NX rotors

I acquired some nx2k rotors a while back and they have been sitting in my garage for a while now. My current brakes are wearing down so i am upgrading. I went to a few shops and they all told me that they were unable to resurface the rotors due to the rust build up. Are these shops just lazy or are they telling me the truth.

I want to reuse these rotors so if anyone has good advice, please speak up.

This is how i was going to do it: I was thinking of using these rotors with the old pads that came with the brakes just to get the surface rust off, then go and get them resurfaced and put on new pads? Or can i just sand them lightly with fine sand paper and use them?

My other option requires the purchase of new rotors...
I found some on a few sites but do not know which to get considering that there are a few different models...(japan version/ with and without abs...)

NOPI online brembo blanks... Japan built model for $26 and the 2.0 w/o ABS for $24 nopi brakes (http://www.nopionline.com/nopistore/dsp_parts.cfm?vpcid=437&vcatid=0040&vcatyear=1992&vmodelid=065&vmakeid=270&vL1id=0&&vtitle=1992%20NISSAN%20NX)

Which ones would i buy if i have to get new rotors. I understand that good working brakes are very important to have but am just trying to save a few dollars.

thanks for your help,
Paul C.

theyre lazy. if those are brand new rotors then can be resurfaced within .030 of spec, i'd resurface them for you but your in IL =\. the fact that theyre rust doesn't mean sh*t ive resurfaced hundreds of rusty rotors and drums back to brand new, just have to keep them within spec.

PS- they can be sanded but do it very lightly, or just put them on the car and let the pads clean them up.

The rotors on my car probably look worse than those. A respectable shop can turn them no problem.

What would happen if the rotors were out of spec?? what are the risks....cracked rotor/premature failure?

Thanks for all of the advice guys....i guess no shops want any of my business. The search is on for motivated shops around my area.

If they're too thin, toss 'em. We're talking your life here. Cut corners in accelerating, but please don't cut 'em in stopping. ECSTATIC to see we've got some brake guys on here. The Brembo blanks (was it from Advance??) can be had as said above for $26; I once got Chinese rotors on sale for $17; that can't be done (as far as I know) anymore; ante up for the Brembos.
Keep looking for a good shop. They're hard to find. I moved to Atlanta in '01; I got lucky with a tire/wheel/brake shop, m'lady knew 'em. They're fair, honest, and I'm more than happy to pay a few extra bux to KNOW it's done right. Same for wrenches; I've fixed for a living and owned my own shop, I'm REALLY picky. Took me two years down here to find some guys who will do the stuff I don't want to or can't do - again, FAIR AND HONEST. They've never advertised and are on their third generation of families coming to them - Rick and John have been at it together for 30 years. To have that level of service and trust, don't ask for cheap. You want cheap, go to walmart. Just don't ask for competence. Competence and honesty WILL exist in Chicago. Good luck. Holler if we can help.
