: exhaust system
dono200sx 06-12-2002, 02:27 PM Can anyone reccomend an exhaust system and muffler tip style that is quiet and has a low, none rice sounding tone? I would like to keep it as quiet as possible, though I don't mind it being loud. I am mainly looking for a deep tone and power. I am considering going with a GReddy cat-back, but I can't decide what tip to use. Any suggestions are welcome....
I have heard that the dual 2.5" rounded DTMs sound good...
PlanoSER 06-12-2002, 02:31 PM thought u were going to get an SE-R instead, id wait off on mods and save the money for that. hell, for the price of an exhaust (500 bux) u can get an sr20de motor! its all about the performance/$$ ratio ;)
but ifu have ur heart set on exhaust, i like the greddy Sp catback, nice low tone, not too loud, and nice looking muffler/tip. Some think the tip is kinda big though.
I had the topspeed( Courtesy) 2.5" mandrel stainless steel catback on my car, it was loud as shit but the gains were good.
dono200sx 06-12-2002, 02:35 PM that is for the SE-R. all i am gonna do to the GA16 is get it to sell ;)
dono200sx 06-12-2002, 03:20 PM doesn't Mr. K. Watanabe sell SR20s pretty cheap?
Mike sr20de 06-12-2002, 03:45 PM ballistic, why don't you go JDM. they are pretty cheap.
Don, don't they make an HKS sport for the b14? i would choose the HKS above the Greddy. I have the Greddy and I think the tip is too big! Tommy had an HKS on his B13 and I thought it looked and sounded great.
dono200sx 06-12-2002, 04:00 PM I"m sure they make one for the B14. Them main thing about the GReddy exhaust is they have that certification for the Cali. Hwy. Patrol saying that the system meets the CHP standards. That way if some cop tries to hassle me, i Have paper to bring to the Judge...
I'm not too worried about how big the tip looks. All I care about it sound and power. :D
Mike sr20de 06-12-2002, 04:27 PM I have never been hassled for mine. But i live in Fort Worth also.
if you get the hks I will trade you for my greddy plus cash. depending on the price.
They never gave me the paper you are talking about.
dono200sx 06-12-2002, 04:47 PM From what I understand, you have to ask for the piece of paper. You might give them a call. I'm more worried about them pulling me over for speeding (I have a bit of a lead foot, though it's getting lighter ;) ) and then deciding to hassle me about the tip as an add on...
tommy 06-12-2002, 04:58 PM Uhh...speeding away from cops...good plan.
Mike, the HKS for the B14 is different than the B13 HKS exhaust. The B14 people who have had the HKS say it's really loud and has a huge tip like the Greddy. They do NOT recommend the HKS B14 exhaust. Just an FYI. :)
Mike sr20de 06-12-2002, 05:22 PM The B14 people who have had the HKS say it's really loud and has a huge tip like the Greddy.
ohh. nevermind. that sucks! I really liked that hks. I guess I will buy a classic now, so I can get the HKS. who wants to buy my 200??:D
dono200sx 06-12-2002, 05:28 PM Send me some info on your 200 and I'll think about it. I'm almost in the market to buy a 200SX. Let me know...
tommy 06-12-2002, 05:34 PM Good plan! :D Texas will become a B14-free state!
I miss the HKS. It ruled! :D
dono200sx 06-12-2002, 05:36 PM cool... if thats true then i just might have the only SR powered b14 in the state when i get mine... kul :D
Mike sr20de 06-12-2002, 05:42 PM Vultures!! I was just kidding. I love my car. but I am trying to find a nissan pickup. 95 or so. cheap...
dono200sx 06-12-2002, 05:44 PM vulture? me? never! or am i? i dunno. :D should you need to sell ur SE-R, lemme know. or if u know anyone selling one, preferably a 95 or 96 model, blue, silver, or red, with no mods. i'll buy as soon as i sell my current car
PlanoSER 06-12-2002, 06:12 PM sell ur car so u can start car shopping.. u dont wanna find a sweet car then be held back on the deal b/c u havnt sold ur car yet...
I posted mine on the sr20 classifieds only, and had it sold in about 3 days. Worth a shot...
dono200sx 06-12-2002, 06:54 PM I can't sell it just yet. It's not even out of the body shop. It was in a little bit of a fender bender. Someone tried to make a left turn through my driver's side door. Luckily no structural damage. Door just needed to be replaced, a little fender work, and the part where the door latches shut needs to be replaced. It'll all be done by the end of next week hopefully. I"ve already had to pass up a couple deals. It's not that I don't like the car, I love it, but I'd love an SR20 more. :D
PlanoSER 06-12-2002, 09:23 PM plop an sr20 in there with an LSD trans, and beef up the suspension/breaks/clutch like u prolly would have done anyways if u got an SER... save money
or sell it and buy Chris Garrison's SER, its nice :-d
dono200sx 06-12-2002, 10:29 PM I have actually considered doing the conversion. Thing is, it would be easier to buy the SE-R. If I did the swap I would have to replace the water pump, etc. There is a lot of extra work in doin the swap. If I can get some actual prices on how much it would cost to swap it out I would consider it. Last I heard, I could actually buy an SE-R for what it would cost to do the conversion.
shell 06-12-2002, 10:52 PM the nismo / borla as a unique tip and VERY quite... had one for years before the Courtesy Cat-Back
not cheap, not as big gains as the Courtesy (though you need a lot of mods to flow to get the most out of the 2.5" courtesy), but I did notice that there is one on display at courtesy that has been up there for a LONG time.... I bet they would deal on it!!!!
oh - it's 100% stainless - being a borla, it will never wear out!
this is what it looks like:
