: HELP!!! insurance questions...
sentraturbo 06-12-2002, 06:40 PM if you guys didn't know, some lady ran a stop sign and wrecked my sentra... it was a front end accident... my intercooler, oil cooler, piping, and all the other stuff that regularly gets messed up in a front end accident is damaged...
my question is, CAN THE PERSON WHO HIT ME'S INSURANCE TOTAL LOST MY CAR??? cause the lady's insurance company just called and said my car is a total loss... they can't take my motor can they??? and all my other aftermarket stuff... man... this sh*t is a bit*h...
Michael T. DeLoach 06-12-2002, 06:55 PM Being that your car is a 91 the insurance company will most likely let you keep the car even after they total it. So you can take the money and fix it. Just negotiate with the adjuster.

sentraturbo 06-12-2002, 07:54 PM yeah... cause i put so much money into the motor and for them to just total lost it and give me a puny $2-3k would be ridiculous...

will they pay for my aftermarket parts??? if so, its gonna total up to near $10k for parts and labor...
Crono1321 06-12-2002, 10:58 PM A friend had a similar situation...but with audio. Insurance will possibly pay (I'm sure it varies from company to company) IF you have ALL RECEIPTS, and pictures showing what it looked like PRE-WRECK. Even though I said all this, what insurance company would buy your boost controller, turbo timer, etc. from you? They won't. Only thing I could suggest is...oh no its too cruel....threatening to sue if they do not pay. Not that you should go through with it its too much money, and its cruel to rob someone of their entire life simply because of her being human and making an accident. But this works sometimes...impose that you will pursue further action if you don't get what you want. Its how my friend got his entire front kit replaced after getting in an accident. :D Gosh I have a lot of friends in accidents don't I? Seriously though I'm not lying.
nismotic 06-12-2002, 11:43 PM I thought that, the other person's insurance company pays your insurance company then they pay you. I was also under the impression that you only get reimbursed for stuff like that if it is specified in your policy. For example, on your policy you opt for the $1000 of extra insurance for the audio/etc. So if something is stolen or damaged they calculate the loss and pay you back. So if this isn’t in your plan, you may not get your money. I thought this was how it worked, maybe not.
ihateloops 06-13-2002, 01:27 AM The insurance company will most likely declare the car totaled, but then you can buy it back with a salvage title, fix it up nice again and get it inspected to make sure its road legal. It should be a very cheap purchase for you. As for them paying for all your turbo parts, dont bet on it. Unless you reported everything you modified on your car to the insurance company as you were doing it, its not in your policy. That sucks big time. Sorry.
93SER 06-13-2002, 02:38 AM I’m currently dealing with Allstate and they want to salvage my 93 se-r because my estimate on the minor interior damage, stolen stereo and wheels exceeded their cash out value. Since there is no real major damage I can buy it back for only $750, not too shabby:)
Since your se-r has more damage, you might get it real cheap.

sentraturbo 06-13-2002, 10:29 AM well... my car is salvage already... i got in a accident last year and they let me keep my car FOR FREE... i didn't have to buy it back at all... they told me it wouldn't be worth the hassle... so i don't know about this time... and when i talked to the adjustor from the other party, and he told me that they most likely will pay for my aftermarket parts... i have receipts of all the broken items as well as labor...
eric96ser 06-13-2002, 11:22 AM The other person's insurance company car total your car. My mom had her car hit while she was at work. A lady lot control of her car, and crashed through the fence around the parking lot. My mom was no where near the car, in no way her fault, and the company totaled it. The damage was $20 over book value. She bought the car back for $600, and is keeping it for my brother to learn to drive with. The car is 100% raod worthy. Its an Oldsmobile, and the front of the car is fiberglass. Everything opens, and works, its just a little sideways. My advice: let them total the car, then buy it back. Find another Sentra, and put your stuff in that car. Once a car is hit in the front, it usually isn't the same after its been fixed. But it all depends on how bad it was.
Michael T. DeLoach 06-13-2002, 03:38 PM They will most likely just offer you book value for it. If you have your receipts for the parts it will put you in a better negatiating position. If you are going to rebuild it then you will still have them and shouldn't need paid for them.
