Hi guys, how's things?

I havn't been posting here because my password was all messed up and I've been really busy buying a house and whatnot. I got the password thing all squared away now.

Just wanted to stop in a say hello. So, Hello.

BTW my 90 GSX just went 12.5@109mph with about $750 invested. Not bad. :)

Very funny guys, but if I told you the car cut 1.6 short times all day without complaint even on the stock clutch that wouldn't be fair now would it. ;) :D

In all seriousness the reliability thing is overblown. The guys who drive them hard without being abusive have no problems. That and taking out a few hundred pounds (Really easy in these cars) helps a TON.

My car now weighs 2690lbs and it's not a stripped out tuna can by any means and I still have another 50-75lbs to go...still has all the interior panels and carpet etc. To me it's the GTiR I could never get in the USA. :)

I miss my SE-R for other reasons, but I'm having fun with the DSM.

You have to admit, tossing on an exhaust, K&N filter and $50 manual boost controller and clicking off back to back 12.5 runs is impressive. :)

Is this on a stock turbo?

Jay Hass

The rest of the car is stock as a rock right down to the clutch. No port work, no "dump mod" on the wastegate, stock 02 housing, stock stock stock.

I ran 12.7@107 on the first pass right off the highway, heatsoaked, only running 17psi (vs 20)...to be blunt, I was in shock. Cut a 1.6 60' first time out.

What happened to the b13 you bought?

Jay Hass
06-13-2002, 09:43 PM
I ended up selling it. It had rot in all the wrong places. I never intended to make that B13 a project car. It was supposed to be a beater.

Long story short. Had 91 Talon, sold Talon to buy Ron Acevedo's S13 that was a Silvia conversion sans motor, deal fell through, stuck with beater SE-R, started working on it realized it wasn't the car for that, sold it, got a 90 GSX practically handed to me...the rest is history. :)

One question about your fallen B14. What did you use to dye the B13 seats you had in the '97? Also, when you took the carpet out of the B13 to clean it, did it come clean?

Jay Hass

Go to Pep-Boys and buy a can of fabric dye. It comes in a spray can. Works like a champ.

Yes the carpet came out like new. I pressure washed it and then dyed it. :D

honestly-- 750 into a stock dsm isnt going to bring you to a 12.5 so I'm going to assume that you had some stuff done to it when you got it, it could bring you into the 13's no doubt but a 14b isnt capable of a mid 12 maybe a high 12 but not a mid 12, I would really like to know what you have done to it that its so fast for so cheap, a lot of my friends have some pretty fast dsm's but to hit 12s you have to have some money investing in it... either way thats cool dsms are definateyl a sweet car for the money I can't think of a better car to start with, just a shame that your not reping the sr20 anymore.

Its called a good driver. Jay ran a low 15 in a stock '97 SE-R. IF he says he ran a 12.5 with $750 invested, I believe every word he says.

Thanks for the info Jay, I'll try that out. I have the carpet out of my '91, and I tried scrubbing it with Simple Green straight up, used a hose, and it came almost clean, but not enough for me. I tookit to the car wash(people thought I was crazy), and that helped some to, but I still need a little more.

a good driver is only good for so much though, and im not doubting his 12.5 but I'd like to know what he has for 750 that got him there--maybe some creative math was involve:cool: some things are just not possible. I would like to know what mods he has to it.

well, maybe for a superstreet driver, probably not, 13 second car, but for a hella driver, I think it is totally possible. Jay had the fastest 50 shot car in the country until he changed it, and a 1.6 60ft time is NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here we go with the doubter! LOL

Here's a good friend of mine: 12.29@109 with the 14b

http://www.extrememotorsports.com/team/philb.htm

Here's another list of 14B cars and their times:

http://www.dsmtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46394

My car:

12.52@109.2mph

60: 1.71
330: 5.15
1/8: 7.99
MPH: 88.10
1000: 10.45
1/4: 12.52
MPH: 109.20

www.ctwd.net/gsx/MVC-708W.MPG

Backed up with

60: 1.67
330: 5.16
1/8: 7.99
MPH: 88.86
1000: 10.46
1/4: 12.53
MPH: 108.5
(Had some hesitation in the top gears as you can see in the 1/8 was stronger than the first run. Damn it!)

www.ctwd.net/gsx/MVC-715W.MPG

Mods:
3" Turbo back
Aircan removed w/ K&N
Turbo XS Boost contoller
Removed upper and lower honeycomb in MAS
Removed some weight (Not gutted by any means...still has interior panels and all)
My own brand of tweaks and tuning.

So basically exhaust, filter and boost.

The rest of the car is STOCK. No no I mean *REALLY* stock.

NO port work
NO synthetics
NO Dump Mod
Stock O2 Housing
Stock clutch
Stock
Stock
Stock

Timeslips can be seen here:

http://www.ctwd.net/gsx/12-5_slip.jpg

BTW that was 15.0@90mph with nothing more than an air filter on the stock intake tubing, 14.1 (best trap 96mph) with a full bolt on car, 13.1@104mph with a 50 shot on the SE-R. :)

Well you know what I had to do, I had to push the hose nozzle (garden hose not car wash) into the carpet and mush it all around so the water kinda "flushed" all the crap out. That's where all the dirt and grime came up to the surface. Hit it with the dye and it will look like new.

Keep in mind also how much HP Jay made on stock DE internals with boost. Never met the man, but his word is good enough for me. There was a time that I was leaning towards the DSM crowd. I however got scared off by crankwalk.

Can you compare the 14b turbo to something we know of? Is it close to a T25? T28? T3? You never hear of someone with a stock Bluebird DET doing the same mods and pulling mid 12s, albeit that's without AWD of which I don't know how big of a difference that would make besides off the line.

As opposed to a garage type geekout, I think we should build a forum getogether around Jay going to the strip once so we can all learn a thing or 12 about how to drag race. I'd make the trip to the East coast for it. :)
