I have heard the term "welded case" before but was curious what was involed? What gets welded?

Any info on this would be great, looking into it.

Thanks
James

I'd like to know this as well. Oh wait, you're not getting any responses because you have a low number under your name. Start posting a bunch and get that number up there, then that will mean that you're knowledgeable about this stuff and you'll always get lots of replies to your questions. Did I just say that? I'm sorry, that wasn't very nice. What many would recommend you do is utilize the search feature to see if this issue has been addressed before and it will bring up posts about it if they are available. Try that and if you still don't find what you need give people some time to respond. :D

Your right I don't have a lot on post under my name, I not a post whore by any means. I would rather spend my time making my cars faster.

I searched on the forum nothing turned up. Did some searching of the mailing list and found some good info and even some pictures.

Here they are:

Nice find bro. Funny, thats just the area of my tranny where I found a bunch of grime recently. Right on the front there where the welding is concentrated.
I read somewhere it should cost like $70 or so. That really looks like it helps.

Can I do this myself? I have a torch. I wanna have this done when I do my clutch? It's just around the corner

I would think you can do it yourself. It appears they are only filling in the webbing around the driveshaft input and then grinding off their excess. I've never worked with aluminum before so I would be reluctant unless I had another tranny case to practice on until I got the feel for it. I'd rather use a MIG welder setup for aluminum than a torch, it's easier to regulate, be consistent. We'll find out though, once I get a classic and do a swap, I'll be doing this to the tranny.
