paul p 06-06-2007, 12:18 PM So someone mentioned Canada, which these days will require passports and all sorts of crazy stuff.
How bout New Orleans?
It is a MAJOR convention destination, we just need to pick a time when it won’t be booked solid.
Maybe a week or two after Mardi Gras or sometime in the fall.
Oh and ‘bout an hour away is http://www.noproblemraceway.com/
Considering much of the planning can be done by remote control, I am quite willing to take a big chunk of the burden. If it means needing to go there a time or two beforehand……twist my arm. *wink*
Just a thought.

eric96ser 06-06-2007, 12:32 PM I doubt that is going to happen. Planning a convention from a distance, sucks, and I'm not sure if the New Orleans area would be a good one. Remember, fall is prime hurricane season, and it wasn't too long ago that the city was underwater. I thought about Nashville for '09, but we'll have to see how '08 goes. From someone that has been to all but 1 convention since '00, this years was the smallest by far. This was not the fault of any of the planners though, they did a great job. I think the group is getting smaller and can't maintain the numbers like we used to.

I have to agree with you Eric! Wherever the convention is there are always those of us that have attended most of them and then the locals who only go when its close.
paNX2K&SE-R 06-06-2007, 12:51 PM I think there were quite a few people like myself who couldn't attend due to conflicting events that were scheduled prior to the final convention announcement.
trance34 06-06-2007, 12:53 PM What sucks is that we based out numbers off last year! :(
paul p 06-06-2007, 01:01 PM Wow.
Gotta love the positive attitude.
Planning a convention from a distance, sucks,
But it's doable, no? If there is any city i know almost as well as Chicago it's the Big Easy. Been down there once or twice a year for a long time. Quite a few friends in and out of the car biz too.
Remember, fall is prime hurricane season, and it wasn't too long ago that the city was underwater.
So, we do spring.
While wanting to LIVE there is questionable, it has already come back as a tourist destination. In fact i would have gone to Jazzfest with a group except for getting really geared up for this years motor/sail season.
I thought about Nashville for '09, but we'll have to see how '08 goes.
1st i've heard of it, and i certainly would not disparage. It's half the distance for me, so go on with yer bad self.

Obviously you don't read the other threads....
Katana200sx 06-06-2007, 01:13 PM the wife and i were talking, and she was the one that suggested we should go to the next one. wherever it is...i will be there.
paul p 06-06-2007, 01:16 PM From someone that has been to all but 1 convention since '00
Since i've only made the most recent one, this of course automatically makes me woefully incapable of such a task.

So any smaller and we simply give up? Call it an end of an era, right.
If 10-15 drivers show up for track day we can afford it, beyond that i really could care less. Something tells be it won't be that hard to have a good time down there regardless the size of the group.

Have you looked into track rental costs? I don't know what friday cost, but I do know what a similar track near me, with less ameneties charges. It's almost $8000 a day, for a weekday. We wanted to have our own track day here, but the costs are so prohibitive.

Yes I have a life outside of this forum.
And outside the 3 others (note no ‘brand loyalty’).
What gets me excited is when forum stuff turns into fun in real life, i’ve been one of the most active local members. We go to GLD i’m there, Busse, there.
I have to laugh at a recent local get together, many posted they'd be there, i just showed up. One of the very few that did.
Previous conventions? Did I ever post up saying I’m going? No.
Now that I’ve been to one I feel the need to get more involved. BMW and Oktoberfest have all the 'help' they need....
I offered my assistance many times for this one, little did i know i should have been contacting JP directly as opposed to hoping Lohto would pass on the info.

The Convention has fallen into a nice pattern of bouncing among the western, central, and eastern thirds of country.
Just looking at the history, the Eastern reaches are ripe for another Convention around '09 (contingent on brave souls to organize). That's the vibe from my Johnny Carson hat.
If anyone still drives SE-Rs by 2010, I think it's time to do one in the deep South. IMHOYMMVLOL.
paul p 06-06-2007, 01:50 PM Have you looked into track rental costs?
How’s less than $2000 for Friday.

Called them and they are still there, planning on being there till at least 2020 (that's when the mortgage is paid off).

Again... all you had to do was look past your own arrogance and see the thread below yours about '08 and read what has been said about '09 in there.
With the level of arrogance you display in this thread it's a wonder anyone would be good enough to help you.
LMK how it works out for you as this Southerner will not be going out of my way to help you.

Damn, that's cheeeeap. The other local track *was* 1500 a day a few years ago, is now $5000 per day. The 5 car maximum is a bit lame though. Does that price include insurance and corner workers?
The corner worker can work a corner for half and drive for half. Usually free to both parties.
paul p 06-06-2007, 02:40 PM Again... all you had to do was look past your own arrogance and see the thread below yours about '08 and read what has been said about '09 in there.Arrogant, maybe, sarcastic u-betcha.
Sorry, I’m pissed.
One, I simply offer up ideas and am met with huge negativity.
Two, that thread is titled 08. As far as that one goes, I’m there, and the only question is which car to take.
Three, I’m in the middle of planning the annual e34 get-together here THIS WEEKEND.
Four, for someone who had the opportunity to meet me in person this previous weekend and didn’t you are making a lot of assumptions about who you are dealing with.
Again, WhereTF is 09 being discussed with any depth in that other post.

eric96ser 06-06-2007, 02:44 PM I was really going to respond to this thread, but if I did, it would really piss some people off, so I'm going to hold back.
Bowlcut 06-06-2007, 03:18 PM omg eric is holding back....what is the world coming to
kieranlavin 06-06-2007, 03:39 PM Want my opinion? Let's get through 08 before we look forward to 09.
As with most convention-goers that I've seen of late, they show up at a convention that is somewhat local to them, get all excited about the convention, and start planning a convention in their head. We here "I'll be there next year for sure... I'm in... etc, etc" Within 4-6 months that person has dissapeared and doesn't go to another convention after that.
Let time do it's thing... Paul, come to the 08 convention and maybe the group as a whole can discuss where 09 should be at that time. And personally, it takes going to 2-3 conventions and following the organizers around like a puppy dog before you can possibly grasp the amount of work that goes into it. I jumped into it after going to my first convention in 2000 and co-organized 2001. Boy was I naive! Then, to top it off, I stupidly co-organized another event in 2006.
