Ok, so I'm driving down the highway going home from work, and my fuel guage drops from half a tank to empty, to Quarter tank, back up to half, then all the way past empty. I got home, then the next day was fine, but on the way to work was doing this again. now it's not a sudden jump in the needle, it slowly moves durring all of this. the only thing I've done was install a new radio early that morning. Really weird. What do you think???

Mine does the same. Pay no attention till your gas light comes on.

That pretty ironic. That just happened to me yesterday. It was the first time it has ever happend to me.

Yeah you can actually. I've gone well over 60 miles after my light came on before and never ran out of gas.

bad fuel sender in the tank. It was a recall back in the day. They have the new fuel sender on the front page of www.courtesyparts.com

1991 B13's have a similar issue. Needle drops fast after half tank, gets really pessimistic until near 'E'. After adding 7-8 gallons several fill-ups when it was on 'E' I finally checked around.

The sending unit isn't the problem in my car - it has to do with the way the float in the tank moves (geometry). Low fuel light works and there is consistently 2-2.5 gallons in the tank, so I also get the 50-60 miles.

Not caring much that the gauge is funky, I just reset the trip meter and watch the mileage. Since the low fuel light works, not concerned about running out of gas.

If yours jumps up then down, etc. instead of doing the pessimistic fuel gauge problem, then more likely sending unit is acting up, or my perennial favorite, a bad ground wire is causing fluctuating voltage to the unit and/or gauge.

HTH - check for TSB's on this. 1991-93 B13's have one out there.

I have a 94 b13. I have never hit gas light. Most I have ever put in the tank in 20k miles is 11 gallons, normal is around 9 to 10 gallons. Aren't they supposed to have a 14 gallon tank? A lot of times I will drive home from work and wake up and the gas gauge will have moved down a little during the night. It is also very slow to raise up. I just assume that at 197k miles it's lazy. I watch my trip meter.

I normally get 270 to 300 miles per tank.

50 liters, 13.2 gallons

F to E on the needle reads a little over 10 gallons

Hmmm...I put almost 13 gallons in it once so far, when I was well into the warning zone. It runs a pretty steady 24-ish mpg with mostly backroads driving, no FWY, so I wasn't too concerned being close at the time to a lot of gas stations. I just plan on looking to fill up sometime after 250 miles (and not when I am 100 miles from the nearest station!).

My G gauge works but its low fuel light is the same, there is well over 3 gallons left when it starts warning me I'm about to implode. It even takes over the NAV and puts up a list of gas stations, pushy car...

Gas light??? I had a gas light on my 93 SE-R, but I have yet to see the light on this one. 92 NX200, is it supposed to??? Or maybe it's a different dash, *** when I baught it the title said "no mileage reading"

Low Fuel Warning Light - really more like "Yo! 2-3 gallons left, fool, wth you gonna do now on I-10 120 miles from a Gas Station!!!" (based on real story going to PHX, names not specified to protect my sibling's)

Lower left side of gauge, turns on when you're close to empty. I can't recall seeing a car since 1990 w/o one - maybe the bulb burned out or the circuit is screwed.

When I fill my tank up it wont go past 3/4 tank, and when the light comes on it has 3 gallons left. Fun times with B13 gauge. I replaced a sending unit once in a 93 Sentra XE and it had the same problem. New sending unit is around $70 and a $5 o-ring seal for the gas tank. You can also pull your old one out and check to see if the resistance is within spec on the potentiometer. One sec, I'll pull specs off all data. Nah, I can't find them, they're in the FSM though....

wh not just fill up every time you hit the last 1/4 of gas like i do so dont ever run out of gas.

You can just buy a new sending unit to fix the problem. My low fuel light doesnt work anymore and my gauge is at 3/4 tank when full...so I'm gonna shell out for a new one.
