The only thing I don't want to happen is have it rust. If I don't paint my car, will rust or anything else bad happen? Or will it just continue to look displeasing to the eye?

I have the same fade problems on my 91 Red SE-R. What do you guys reccomend? A full paint job, a "once over", or what?

Ever thought of adding a paint booth to the garagemahal? Have you already got a good sized compressor?

Sometimes you can buff out the faded area but a lot of times you can't. I reccomend repainting. Same goes for you Ben .

the white stuff is ur clear coat, and when that comes off its hard to hide it. i'd recommend using a really fine sandpaper , and try to blend it in. if nothing else it will be smooth : )
oh yah, and a light rubbing compound can do wonders do just dull areas. dont forget to use a paint cleaner first, Meguiars paint cleaner works really great to take off oxidation, and gets ur paint ready to be polished to bring back the shine.

Ben,
I wouldn't worry about the thing rusting.. My old car, 86 Accord starting doing the same thing the day i inherited it back in 95. I remember i thought it would rust out but the gosh darn thing never did.. year after year more clear coat/ painted flaked off and no rust anywhere.. the last few years i had the car it started looking real bad, i stopped waxing for those few years and still no rust..
i guarantee your rear fenders and rockers will rust out way before the roof and trunk panels do.. that's what my Accord did..

Ben I have some products I will bring out on the 28th. There are a few things you can do to at least hide it a bit. I wouldn't worry about it rusting. Like someone mentioned, what you are seeing is the clear coat fading away. The solid grey paint appears to be in good shape. The problem is that the clear cost acts like a layer to guard against acid rain and the elements in general.
Some good rubbing compund and a buffer will work wonders. You may have to go at it a few times with the rubbing compound. However, once it's smooth, you can then use some polish and make it blend even more. Finally, seal it with some wax.
Don't get me wrong, you will never make all of that go entirely away. However, you can make it look a lot better than it does with a little bit of elbow grease.

Cool. I'll hold off on any painting until after you are here. You can work on my car while I'm working on yours :)

Sounds good to me, Ben. Actually, I think I want to watch you work on my car---I'll be the gofer for ya. You know----"Curt, get me a 12mm open end.....Curt, get me another slice of pizza." :D
