Personally, I wouldn't weld aluminum with a MIG, just too much of a pain in the ass.

I don't think you'll find a push/pull welder for under $1800, but it's been a while since I've looked.

You can find a decent 200 amp MIG used for 8-900 and a spoolgun for 3-400. You wouldn't be able to do any AL under 3/16"

OR find a used AC/DC TIG for ~1,200-1400 if you're lucky. It probably wouldn't be able to do AL over 1/4" though.

I enjoy using my spoolgun on my MIG for AL although it takes some getting used to. Talk about welding on Fast Forward!!!

I like tig too, but it just takes too much time sometimes. We dont have a tig welder with the adjustment on the hand either, and sometimes the pedal cant go in certain places.

You need a good tig welder to do al work thats worth a darn. But if your just starting out get a mig welder for steel and start making your own exhaust and IC piping its fun and easy.

The miller 350p is an awsome machine for AL mig with it's pulse function. Costs About 4 g's with the push/pull setup though. Check ebay. You may get lucky.
