Hey Folks:

I just titled the 98 SE in Ohio (bought from the Evil Overlord on Wednesday nite). Ben was good enough to include a set of new wires, plugs and distributor cap, which I need to install.

Dumb question #1 - Is the distributor cap the same as on my 91 SE-R? It looks different somehow. Where is the short wire with the red cap on it?

Not as dumb question #2 - What is the recommended gap for plugs? Ben gave me 4 new NGK plugs with the middle (?) heat range (forget if it is 5 or 6), but I want to gap them correctly for a stock engine (timing advanced to 19, no turbo). What is the best gap range?

Thanks and I'm glad to be a new member of the SE community :D

Congrats, and welcome. Don't forget to get a rotor.

Its different. There is no power wire because the coil is internal (I think that is worded right).

I don't remember the stock plug gap. 35-40 I think. I'll look it up later if no one has answered.

OK, today, I switched out the old for the new:
plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

The plugs Ben gave me (which he got from Courtesy) were #22401-1P1S6VW ($8.25 each), that came in the box gapped at about .040. The ones I pulled (which Ben had been using when he had the turbo on this car) were gapped at about .035. The Haynes manual says to gap the plugs at .035.

The car ran fine after I switched everything out. I just want to make sure I did not screw anything up with the new plugs gapped at .040. The plugs did not look like they were easily adjustable for gap. Any comments?
