Hi again all,
I am looking to improve the spark on my *** spec gtir and wondered whether the msd 6a was the way forward? is it easy to install on the sr20det engine installed in the gtirs (single coil setup) or is there another device i should be looking at?
Looking for in the region of 500hp flywheel. Turbo power only no funny stuff (NOS)
Cheers All

Hi, you might want to go with the MSD digtal, a lot of people seem to be using them now. I use the MSD 6a seems to work fine, I don't know much about the digtal one, maybe someone can chime in on this.

Thanks for that but just had a look at the MSD website and the MSD Digital is for distribuotrless systems, my gtir sr20det lump has the distributor on it.

The Digital 6plus is a pretty common install on DETs and DEs running Juice. Good stuff. The MSD SCI may also be a good box for you, though I don't think it's as flexible as the 6+. Not as bloody expensive, either.
I understand that a coil booster is also a good idea, perhaps even a better idea than a full ignition box. Something like the Nology model or the B&M model, which are basically just DC transformer/line conditioners that keep the coil at +16vDC, regardless of the battery or alternator health.
Are you having problems with your current ignition?

You must have misread the product description OR looked at the MSD Digital 6 ***. The Digital 6 Plus is for systems with distributors like yours. If you don't want/need the added features of the Plus, just get the MSD 6 series of your choice. Each one has different features.

Thanks all for the help!!
The reason I am looking for something is as near the redline i am starting to get misfire and closing the gap on the plugs helped no end but still not quite perfect. All of the plugs, leads, cap, arm are pretty new.

Ah. Get the coil booster first, since the fancy boxes mostly help below 3000 RPM. Not that they can't help, but I bet the booster will first.
I'm going to go ahead and assume that you're using a platinum or copper plug that meets the specifications of the original plug (preferrably NGK) except that it's two ranges colder. I'm also going to assume that you've already gone down to 0.025" of gap, and are still missing. If these two situations are not the case, why haven't you?
Aside, are you using genuine Nissan ignition parts? The aftermarket stuff we get here in the States (even brand names!) is total crap. New, real Nissan wires with a real Nissan cap and a real Nissan rotor fix more than 50% of the ignition-related problems seen at under 300 WHP.
