i have a 93 classic, and i am a former owner of a 92 xe, on the classic right before the cat, there is a guess what would i would called a sort of metal weaving, and the edges of mine seem to be frayed a little, and i think when i accelerate a whole bunch of exhaust gas maybe leaking out. Does anyone else seem to have this problem. Or is there supposed to be some exhaust leaking from this "weaving"?

That is the flex pipe. It lets the engine move slightly without putting extra stress on the rest of the exhaust system.
It is not supposed to leak.

there may also be a crack on the piping, but i can't tell because of the heat shield, but i think im going to get that flex piping replaced.

Sounds like it is time to get a header. By the time you buy a new flex pipe you could probably have bought a Pace Setter Header.

does the pace setter and hotshot headers come with the flexpipe?
i was considering buying the hs one, but it seems as if it is given some people grief, i had the pacesetter headers in my xe, and there was a noticeable differnece at highway passing speeds. Also what could i do to get some low end, i was considering the aem cai?

I have the same problem that you do right now. Here's pic of the 2 downpipes http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20078. If you really want to replace just the flex pipe, try here http://www.stainlessworks.net/Clamps%20and%20Flex%20Joints.htm.

the pacesetter comes with a ball joint instead of the flex pipe and the rest of the headers for the most part Hotshot, AEBS, Stillen, all come with a flex pipe. They are right though it would be over 125 in parts and laboer to have a new flex pipe welded in and the pacesetter header is just over that and you could probably do it yourself with patience and a lot of PB Blaster.

in the morning when you first start your car, place your hand in the area that you suspect is leaking. Not directly on the flex pipe, or else you are gonna burn your fingers. Thats the best way to determine a exhaust leak.

well, i decided a day before making a 6 hour trip to take a trip to meineke. He welded a new flex pipe on, and took off the head shield from their to the cat, and did some spot welding in a few places where it was also leaking. But i am still interested in getting headers down the road.
