O.K. what the hell is a code"A5" it is poping up on my consult along with a "soft" knock code..... neither of these codes set off the Check engine light but, the knock code seems to be retarding my timing. So, can anyone tell me what the A5 code is????

Thanks

Erick

Are you runing a Calum ecu? I am going to call Calum to see if he has any insite on this code.. I will post if I get any info.

I talked to Calum tonight... and I could not believe that I didn't think of this.... it is a Hex code..... A5 = 0105 or Egr selenoid. I should have know that...

You mean 1005. Yea, A(hex) = 10(dec), so A5 = 10 05 in B14 speak. :P

I have found a solution to this problem(with Calum's help) ......

I bought a 68ohm resisitor from Radio Shack and pluged the ends of the lead right into the plug for the Egr selinoid and ...... no more A5(1005). I hope this helps others.... I was thinking that we should make a listing of all the ways of bypassing sensor( for testing purposes only).

I also bought a 4.7k resistor for the knock sensor but, I think my problem goes beond the sensor... it makes no differance if I unplug the sensor or change sensors or anything I do.... I still get the code and no check engine light.... no changes @ all.

I tried a bunch of stuff last night.... I cannot get any changes no matter what I do.. remounting the knock sensor.. changing the sensor... plugging in the resistor... regrounding the sensor... nothing. I reset the ecu codes and the second I start the car code pops. The code does not set off the check engine light but, I do believe it is messing with my timing. Does anyone have any ideas....

Thanks

just to get this right... 38 would be 3-8 and 88 would be 8-8

Here is a great link to help you start understanding Hex.

I get the same knock sensor code Erick. I was thinking of changing out the sensor but I haven't gotten around to it yet. No light so no worries IMHO.

I don't know if it's messing with my timing or not. The car seems to drive normal and it doesn't feel slow or anything.

I'll try swapping out the sensor sooner or later. But for now I just keep resetting it with ecu-talk when ever I have it hooked up. It comes rite back next time i start the car but whatever..

I am going to try to change the knock wire this weekend.. we'll se that happens. I'm not sure that it is messing with the timing anymore because, I did some data logging and it doesn't seem to. Plus since the cam install the car rips ass even @ stock boost. i will post if I have a chance to fix the wire..

It is not messing with the timimg or anything ..... this has been checked. I will with Calums help be trying to use the real time to eliminate this problem. I will post when this happens.

I had a similar issue with my B14, when I installed the BC STG 2 cams. It really WAS knock, from the cams and my timing. I backed off my timing to 15* as per Calum's info on the realtime, and no more knock sensor malfunction. (CEL never came on for the knock sensor, just for the rear o2)

Almost every nissan i check has a knock sensor code. Never sets a light and never seems to cause any problems.
