Well, yesterday I finally realised what I had been missing for nearly 18 months as I took the newly prepped setup (kind of) out on track.

I did 5 sessions (10 laps each) in all, completing each session without an issue (mechanical wise).

For the first 3 sessions, I was trying to get used to the suspension, as the rear is still setup for the strip, and is too high and twitchy under braking. I had to use the LSD & throttle to pull me out of a few scrapes, but no major issues.

I had a friend time me on a number of the sesions, posting around the 63-65 second mark on each lap on the first few sessions. On the 5th & final session with my friend, Walter as a passenger, I went for it and it paid off brilliantly...

59.4 seconds...RESULT!

I seem to be having trouble with my video camera though. Somethimes it almost sounds like it recording mono (i.e. like it plays from only the left speaker) and then it also sometimes changes colour (the sky, grass etc). Oh, a finally, the battery only lasted for the first 3 sessions. Well, not even the whole of 3rd session as it died just as we were about to complete the cool down lap.

Mabye it's time for an upgrade!!!

Here's a video of one of the laps in the 3rd session, just before the camera died...

Anyways, what I did notice was how much grip the Toyo R888's actually give once they have a bit of heat in them. Unfortunately, the compound that I have takes bloody ages to heat up properly.

Maybe I need something a bit softer.

What do you guys think / recommend?

Cheers

Dave

Welcome to Toyos! :D With your weight I'm not suprised it takes awhile to build heat. Do they ever go away on you?

I've wanted to drive Knockhill, ever since seening BTCC stuff in the early 90's.

What's the deal with the cones?

Hahah no traction . That little car must be a beast. 1000lbs lighter then a classic.

The cones are there to stop people over doing it.

On special days, they take the cones away and it's a free for all!

It can however cause problems, as it did when I was out in my friend's R32.

We were heading up the main straight trying to pass a BMW 318 kompact (M3 engine conversion, exhaust, filter, chip, big brakes etc). We got passed it and he closed the gap and we went into the cones.

Let's say that the front bumper might need a polish...LOL!

Cheers

It looks like they ruin the line around the track :( I've never seen that done over here.

first off, congrats Bull for getting under 60 seconds! ive seen the car while searching the forum one day, it is very cool! I imagine by the end of a track day, you make a lot of Porsche owners angry

the cones stop people from making a run on the inside of another car going into the corner... easy way to put two cars into the gravel or wall. either the outside car cuts in or the inside car brakes late or locks their brakes and goodnight.

Weird. I'm suprised that's a problem. We just have passing rules that don't allow that. End of problem! (usually)

That dam car moves!!! Hopefully traction will not always be an issue, being only 1500lbs :eek2::eek::eek2:

What I did notice the other day was that the car didn't feel as quick and was taking longer to come on boost. I also couldn't get it to go above 12 psi, no matter how mch I turned the boost controller screw up.

Well, I found the problem today after a bit of investigation work. After pressurising the system to 1 BAR, I found a massive air leak at the turbo compressor, thanks to a missing bolt that is needed to hold the housing together.

It was obviously losing a lot of air, and probably running pig rich, hence why it didn't feel its usual self.

Bloody Nissans!!!

That video made my giggle a few times... the amount of tire spin was more than I could ever do on a wet track day :).

What LSD do you have in there? Maybe a Nismo LSD is in order... that was my biggest improvement after adding the turbo.

Due to the cars weight, you might consider an autocross tire, the R888 shouldn't take that long to heat up, then again with how they setup the course your really not allowed to corner that fast which helps your tires to heat up alot quicker...

I've already got a NISMO LSD...LOL!

As for the tyres, I still need something that I can drive the car to & from the track on, simply for legal reasons.

I don't think the DOT marked Hoosiers are street legal here in the UK.

How do you find them for grip McCoy?
