I have a 1992 Infiniti G20 with a 1994 SR20de motor with my 1992 ECU running it. I want to put a Garret T3 turbo that I have from a Mercedes 300sd on it, because Im not the richest person and am on a budget for now. But anyway, my question is, I can't spend $500 or 600 on a JWT ECU, but I can get a Bluebird ECU for $75 with 370cc injectors. If I can adequately control the boost to stay within the Bluebird's preprogrammed specs, will this work "ok" for now? Or will this just not work at all. I heard the plugs are the same on the ecu's, but of course I don't have the ecu in my hand to actually see for myself. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Bluebird exhaust manifolds are for T25s, which use a different flange than T3s. You'd have to start with a T28 manifold from a GTi-R, anyway, to get block clearance, which also has the T25-style flange. Or do you know some place to get a Hot Shot or F-Max manifold under your budget?

The problem with using a Bluebird ECU is the MAF sensor; some Bluebirds use the same type of sensor that SE-Rs and G20s use, some do not. If you have the wrong sensor, obviously the ECU won't run right. Then you have the issue of the fact that there's no boost solenoid attached to your T3, which may or may not throw a code in the computer; I'm not familliar enough with BB ECUs.

If I were you, I'd call the importer shops begging for used/discarded parts. ;)

<cringes>

not to be a prick, but the JWT ECU and BB ECU topic has been discussed about 4 billion times. search for it and you will get all the opinions on this matter you can shake a stick at.

if you want cheap and fast (relatively) just buy on of the BB or GTiR setups JGY customs or andreas miko have constantly for sale.

or look through the classifieds.

well I will have a t3 manifold for my sr20. And I did search the forum for hours, but if you can point me to specific threads, i'd be grateful, Hot. Now about the MAF's, what's different about them? What does the boost solenoid do on the Bluebird engine.

ANd Hot, I said I was on a budget, If I wanted to get a bluebird engine, I wouldn't be here. i just want something to show you can do a lot with a little.

What does the boost solenoid do on the Bluebird engine.If I'd have known exactly what's different about the MAF sensors, I'd have said so (well, probably). The point is that they're different, and you're best buying the sensor that came from the same car as the ECU to be sure.

The boost solenoid is an (ahem) electric solenoid that acts like a boost controller, allowing boost to exceed what the wastegate is set for. I think that on a Bluebird it's only set for about 8PSI or something, but the facts remain that the ECU controls it, your T3 doesn't have one, and that may (or may not) cause problems.ANd Hot, I said I was on a budget, <snip> i just want something to show you can do a lot with a little. Well, others have tried, with varied levels of failure. You're welcome to try, too, though... IMNSHO, you need a grand in the bank just to get started, let alone make a safe, reliable turbo kit.

Good, Cheap, Fast: Pick any two.
