While looking for a second car (toy) I came accross a Red 92 classic se-r. I had know a little about these cars, that they were great sports cars and very hard to find, but never had the opportunity to drive one. After a test drive I was hooked. The price was right and so I brought home my new project car. My question for those of you out there is where to start?

Besides needing some body work and new headliner the car is in pretty good shape and only has 86,000 miles. Any tune up tips or things to check/replace. I do plan on modding as my budget permits. What things did you first do when you got your ride?

Bye the way, great forum!

Thanks.

Consider putting some money into tune-up and non-go-fast parts. This section of SE-R.net has a lot of essential reading:

http://www.se-r.net/engine/index.html

These are some good starter projects:

- Plugs and plug wires. I prefer OEM Nissan wires and OE-spec NGK platnums
- Motor mounts. Energy Suspension inserts are popular.
- Clean the throttle body plate. Easy and cheap.
- Modify the stock airbox. Remove the resonators and play with the airbox (http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15651).
- Install ES polyurethane suspension bushings. Not entirely cheap or fun to do, but a universally liked mod.
- Advance the timing a few degrees. If you're willing to run higher than 87 octane, this can make a respectable difference.

You can find mountains of information about these by searching in these forums and in the archives at se-r-list.org.

You have a cult car from a good year with a nice aftermarket. There's a ton of stuff you can do and learn about.

change your distributor cap and rotor, if necessary. also probably wouldn't hurt to replace your pcv valve. when you advance your timing, you might as well check your base idle. oil change probably wouldn't hurt either. a good number of people run synthetic oil here, including myself. those are probably most/all of the cheap/free mods.

if you decide to throw some cash into the car, here is a list of the more popular mods:

short shifter
intake (cold air or not, depending on how much you want to spend)
headers
cat back exhaust
springs/struts
brakes

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I've got some work cut out for me. First on the list, must replace the o-rings under the valve cover. Leaky, leaky.
